I am a white female with short hair. Barely passes the collar. It takes so much gel and bobby pins to keep back. But my hair listens better to a french braid. A simple french braid, top to bottom, finished off in a bun. (That shitty barely bun you gotta do with short hair.) Is this in regulation? I have not worn it at work yet and do not feel like being yelled at. The braid is thin and barely noticeable but the width of the braid is like my whole head.

Read the DA Pam and AR 670-1. If your hair in that single french braid does not look like what the regs state, then don't do it. However, without seeing what your hair looks like, I would recommend you get with a female NCO (preferably one that is a seasoned SSG or higher) and have them review your hair in the braid (do this on a weekend or after duty hours outside the barracks) and get their input.

Do you have any female NCOs at work who can check it out? It's hard to tell when one can't see. As long as you follow 670-1 and it meets that you're good. I've seen other females french braid. Just make sure it's neat and not a mess and falls in line with reg.
