So, someone keeps telling me I can have the military move my stuff free of charge once a year like a PCS move. I have never heard of this. I am planning to PCS to Korea in January but thought maybe to move my family back to Colorado early so we can buy a house. Has anyone ever heard of this?

The military will move you one complete move per your. You can have partial moves for various reasons, essentially no. Thank you for your service.

When you do have a PCS, you can use storage and delay delivery for up to one year.
That is probably where the confusion comes from.

Can I have the Army move my stuff once a year even if it’s not a PCS?

The Army is not American Van Lines. IT will move you when you have orders to PCS, ETS or retire. You can, however, move the family at your expense, buy the house and deduct the moving expenses from your taxes.

Someone is wrong. There are many variations of a PCS move, but they are all paid for by the appropriation data on your orders. No orders, no appropriation data, no move.

No. They use your PCS move authority to fund the move. You can do partials, but you need to be in synch with the JPPSO.

Thanks Sir. That’s what I was thinking also. I have never heard of moving once a year on the Army’s dime before.

No such thing. You PCS, ETS and the military will pay for that. Have that someone show you where in the regs, otherwise they are just like barracks lawyers, about as knowledgeable and correct as the mud we clean from our boots.

The confusion probably stems from the fact the Army can move you once per year, but that move is a PCS.
