If I go from army guard to active duty and I'm scheduled for WLC in July but don't attend before I have to report, can they take my E5 rank? I was promoted before the new STEP system.

Went through this many years ago, may have changed, but yes they didn't recognize promotions from guard or reserve.

You will lose your rank anyways even if you had attended wlc. They usuqlly take a rank when you go active. I know 5 soldiers who went active and they all lost 1 rank.

Why didn't you go AGR or Technician? Far as I know you'll keep your rank if you did this.

SGT Gregory Parrott, is going to happen your will lost one rank unless your recruiter get you a E-5 position. I will recommend the you attend WLC now get credit when you are on active duty & don’t have to attend it again. Be smart make the move after the WLC, if you lost the rank is ok because you get it. Ack in 6 months ok.

Way back in the day, 1980, I got out of the Air Force but within 3 months came back in. The only thing I lost was the 3 months time in grade while out. But like I said that was a long time ago.

waaay back in the day, I was a TSgt (E6) in the Air Force, got out and decided to get into the Army Guard. Had to take a "voluntary" reduction to E4.
