I was wondering if I could use inserts instead of buying cold weather boots for Ranger school. On the packing list it says "200 g or 400 G Max thinsulate or inserts." I'm going through a rough time financially and I'm trying to avoid buying those boots. Ranger Savings Program lol. Any information about Ranger school is also appreciated as well.

PS can a unit force you into stabilization even though you did not sign anything to stabilize? Any information about this is helpful as well.

Take care of your feet and they will take care of you...some things you can get away with buying lessor quality, but your boots are not one of them. I know its tight but 2 weeks in and you will know the difference.

As for the stability, the answer is no.... And yes... It just depends on the nature of the stability code. I know at one point the 82nd required you to agree to submit a request for stability if you passed Ranger School.

I was preparing for ALC and wanted to walk on for ranger school. My packet was kicked back because bde said it did not have a 4187 for stabilization. I took the packet (which was signed by company and BN commander) and using it to walk on.

Typically when a unit pays for you to go to school, they want to get some use out of you

Negatory, cold weather boots must have 200 mg thiosulfate. Issued ones work great to save money on your packing list. Good luck

To clarify because you are getting mixed answers. The boot must be a cold weather boots. If it requires inserts to reach the 200 g thinsolate, then that is okay. You can just throw inserts in a summer boot and call it good. Keep in mind the cold weather boots arent just about keeping your feet warm. It's also about keeping your feet dry. Which is why the cold weather boots are either gortex, or all leather exterior. I also recommend using a water proofer on your boots since we dont kiwi anymore.

You have to have the 200g minimum. Last I checked, the issue boots don't cut it, so you need inserts. Stores such as Ranger Joe's and Commando in Columbus cater to Ranger School students. They will sell you anything you could need or want. And if you don't use it, last I checked, they will refund it even after their usual return window. That's what I did for my inserts. Also, you're not going to wear the inserts ever, so it's okay if they don't fit.
I'm not sure about the policies at stores near Bragg.

Yes you can use inserts. Make sure they clearly say 200g thinsulate on them.
