Can I wear a temporary tab(Arctic Tab from CWLC in Alaska) while TDY at a school? I've read 670-1 so I understand that

I've read 670-1 so understand it states I can wear temp tag as long as I am assigned to a unit authorizing it. But while TDY at a school I can't find anything that says can or cant.

You would be authorized to wear your unit specific tab anywhere while you are assigned to that unit unless otherwise directed by the Command you are serving with away from home station.

While I was attending ALC, there was one NCO from AK, who wore his Arctic tab. i thought it was strange, but the academy is adamant that you will wear your organizations patch/tabs/headgear while TDY.

That would be local unit SOP. At school you need to ENSURE you are in compliance with Regs as published. I wouldn't recommend it.

Your S-1 should draft up a memo after receiving your certificate of completion and it should state that you are only authorized to where it in the USARAK Footprint. It is not a Army Wide award it’s just to be worn in Alaska.

the simple answer is yes. While you are TDY you are still assigned to your sending unit. You have not PCS'd and are entitled to wear the appurtaennances of your unit as if you were still on post in Alaska. That being said, if your boss at the TDY unit tells you to remove it, don't make a fuss. It will create more problems than its worth.

If you are sent to a schoolhouse for NCOES, you are now assigned to the schoolhouse, not the original unit. You fall on the schoolhouses books for accountability.

A lot of things have changed since i was in. But when I went TDY to a non-line unit, the eagle stayed on my arm, and the beret stayed on my head. My unit, regardless of TDY, was 3/502 inf, and my insignia reflected that.
Hope that helps.
