I have a concerning matter with my chain of command regarding my OCS right now.
I am currently accepted to OCS and am waiting for my school date to be announced.
My unit is going to Poland on FEB2020 for three months, and they want me to go to Poland with them.
I explained to my leadership that I was supposed to be non-deployable since I got accepted to OCS and my code in ERB changed to ”I”.
However, my leadership claims that I can still go to Poland because it is ”training” not ”deployment”.
Moreover, they say that I should go there since I do not have my school date yet. Can you please tell me if my leadership is allowed to make me go to Poland based on their claims? If you believe that their claims are wrong, are there any Army Regulations or policies that I can refer to?
I do not mind to go to Poland but I am concerned about how going to Poland with my unit may affect my OCS.

Unfortunately they are correct. You are not going there on TCS orders, you are going there TDY for training. Although I see your dilemma, I happen to know why you are going there. I’m a part of one of the many units involved in the planning, and what I would tell about the training event you are attending, is that you may want to consider embracing this opportunity. A lot of firsts for the Army will occur during Defender 2020 and you might want to consider that this experience will enrich you as you begin the transition into the officer corps. You will probably not leave for class for another ten months to a year anyway, and even if by some miracle your class date conflicts, your unit is obligated to ensure you can attend. You might as well make the most of this and add this unique experience to your background.

This is a flashback to what it used to be. This is before my time but I may go in 2021.

Look you have NO ammunition for this fight- Try to get your school date, then go to your command. Until you have a date, which can be up to a year, you will be required to go anywhere until it interferes with the school date.

Your OCS selection will not be affected if you go on a short mission with your unit. If you have concerns, talk with your OCS point of contact for specific guidance to address timeline concerns. Best of luck to you!
