Recently I was walking around Bliss and noticed a 1LT wearing his NG Master recruiting badge. Officers are allowed to only wear the NG Master badge in recruiting as a permanent badge. Senior and basic are not authorized. It got me thinking... is the Army Instructor badge permanent? Like the AC recruiter badge? I tried to find guidance on this but came up with no luck. Have any former Instructors on here commissioned? Please drop knowledge. It does not apply to me whatsoever, I’m just curious.

Yes. It can actually be warned as a commissioned Officer. I know multiple officers here at Huachuca that served as BOLC instructors and where the instructor badge as company commanders (aka no longer in the position).

SSG (Join to see) yes, all levels. Officers will likely not stay in an instuctor position long enough to qualify for a Master level, but they are eligible. I've only seen basic badges processed for officers. There are not many positions out there that apply to officers, outside of OES - BOLC/CCC

I wore Air Force Master Instructor Badge when I was an SFC teaching enlisted 98G (now 35P) at Goodfellow AFB. Later, I wore Army Master Instructor as a CWO when I was teaching 35G advanced class at Fort Huachuca.

I've seen NCOs wearing it after assignment. Also the White House badge.

Air Force is allowed to wear just their highest award if they wish. I knew an NCO.

Yes, former enlisted who earn specialty badges while serving, Drill Sergeant etc. can wear what they earned. Thank you for your service.

& if you changed branches of service, you may also wear ribbons earned in previous branch.

For those who disagree take off your Badges and see how you look. I bet you would have not gotten promoted without Them!

Yes, the regulation states "Soldiers who are assigned to a noncommissioned officer academy and serve in an instructor position..." It does not differentiate between officers and enlisted.

It's not only NCOA now. The badge is earned in and instructor capacity so long as the individual meets the criteria and submits the packet for approval. For instance, AIT and MIBOLC are two courses that can produce a qualified instructor.

I know this is quite old for an internet post, but I was digging through regs for my academy's upcoming accreditation. To put it more concisely, the badge can be taken away IF the instructor is still in an instructor position and fails to meet requirements for the badge level for two consecutive evaluations within six months, and after being counseled is still performing below standards during another six months. Once they move out of the instructor role it is permanent, unless they go back to a instructor position later in their career. If revoked, the badge can only be reinstated by the CG, TRADOC with full justification.

To be eligible outside of TRADOC, a Soldier or Civilian must be formally assigned as an instructor in a Table of Distribution and Allowance instructor position.

Also, as stated previously, it is available for all ranks as long as they meet instructor position assignment requirements per TR 600-21, instructor certification requirements per TR 350-70 and any local requirements (i.e. some NCOA's hold boards as a final step to receive the badge). Other branches/nations that are assigned to an Army institution can participate as well.
