I am curious if I would be wasting other people's time applying for a TOD that starts and ends prior to my BCT ship date in mid February based on previous IET completion?

No. Regardless of your MOS, you signed a contract and are filling a slot of the current MOS. Your break in service prohibits you from deployment

If you are prior service but not qualified because you still need to attend BCT you will have a reporting code, kind of like an MOS, that prevents you from being utilized until you are qualified
