The CIB can be awarded several times. The hardest part must be in a 11b or 18 mos and engage armed combat. As service members get more rank they get into positions not eligible for the award for example in ww2,Korea in infantry units then in RVN era and not carrying the proper mos or working above brigade level.

Slightly different but want to add the story of a hero of mine. George Nestor, USAF Retired MSG, was drafted into the army at the beginning of the Korean War. He served as a medic and was awarded the Combat Medic Badge(CMB), then, still during the Korean War, he volunteered to become an Infantryman( due to the number of Conscientious Objectors the medic MOS was adequately filled.).
