Question from a mom,
My son graduated BCT 7/25 and now at AIT for 15W. His security clearance wasn’t completed while at BCT so, he was put on hold. He is now a month and a half in. Can he be deployed while in AIT especially with him being so early into training? Thank you.

No. Your son will NOT deploy from AIT. That's not how it works. Your son will stay and complete his required training. No Soldier will EVER deploy without first learning their specific craft. And even then, with the exception to a few job skills, Soldiers almost never deploy in ones and twos. Always with a unit. Which is one more reason why your son won't deploy from AIT. I'm not sure who told you this is a possibility, but they are wrong.

I know. The hardest thing as a mom that I had to do, was let him go. He left for BCT on Mother’s Day, go figure. He and I are very close. I’m ill and require tube feedings through my intestines and a permanent IV for daily fluids and medications. I’ve been sick for 16.5 years and had to stop working as a pediatric nurse. His recruiter was great and I am still in contact with her. She told me last year that he talked with her many times about leaving me here. I told him I am stable and his gf was going to move in with me and I have my sister and a couple of close friends here. I’m thankful that we could write and he also had times that we was allowed to FaceTime us. Seeing him “grown up” at graduation was amazing. We were told that this happens when they leave for basic. He already bought his plane tickets home for 2 weeks during Christmas and it can’t come soon enough. I never thought I would be an Army mom but I couldn’t be more proud of the 3 of them.

Would not replacements deploy as individuals or do units just go short handed after casualties?

MAJ Ronnie Reams - the AIT graduates and those that PCS to a unit, deploy as a unit upon arrival. if your gaining unit is deployed, the rear detachment gets the newly arrived soldier ready to deploy with inprocessing, CIF, weapons qualification, critical individual tasks, SRP, and pushes them out with a group of late deployers for that Brigade or Division with pinpoint assignment to a Battalion just like in Garrison. The CSM and S1 decide who goes to what Company and the 1SG decides which Platoon. No one Is pushed as a "replacement" from a central Replacement center like say Long Binh in Vietnam, where they end up in what ever untimthey end up in once they got there. The unit deploys as a unit. The unit leaves from home station and returns to home station. There was one exception to this I saw, at the start of the surge, a unit was deployed from Korea and returned to CONUS along with their families.

If the unit is within some established number of months of return, the newly arrived solider is held on rear D until they redeploy. When I was in the 101st, four months was the threshold for a 12-18 month deployment. At three months we were preparing to redeploy and had torch party poised to return, usually those we had deployed early to start with.

MSG (Join to see) My son just found out that when he graduates in a coupe of months or so, he is being deployed to Korea for a year but it’s not 100% yet.

The possibly of deployment would come after AIT when he joins his unit. Why the question about deployment?

Hearing about 3000 troops being deployed to Saudi soldier this morning, I didn’t know how deployment works with being in AIT. Not only is my son enlisted but his 2 friends that I consider sons are also. They grew up together since kindergarten. One is 35F and the other 91B.

Denise Woods - All soldiers that are deployed have completed their training first.

Denise Woods - soldiers are not deployable until they are MOS qualified and reach their first unit. The Army doesn't send individual replacements like Vietnam. We learned that lesson. Soldiers train, deploy, fight, and redeploy as a unit. The Saudi Arabia deployment is not the first 1000 Joe's they find.

Units are assigned by a joint force capability request from a geopgraphical combatant commander under the Unified Command Plan. The JCS direct service components to source the capability which comes in the form of a unit deployment order.

More senior soldiers, NCOs, and Officers are deployed individually to man Joint Manning Document requirements for an adhoc Joint Task Force HQ in theater, but they are not doing that with Brand new privates.
