Been serving in an infantry role for a couple years now, but my unit just has never found a slot for MOSQ that doesn't interrupt university. I'll be reclassing sometime within this year, but we have an EIB course coming up, can I earn an EIB while not 11B and start wearing it once I officially get reclassed to 11B or do I have to earn it while I am 11B?

No you can't. Must units hold an ESB when they do an EIB. You are only able to compete for the ESB. You can still wear it when you're infantry.

No, you must be series 11 or 18B, 18C, 18E, 18F, 18Z, or 18A.

Infantry earn the EIB. Non Infantry earn the ESB. What MOS are you and what billet are you currently filling? It's sticky business labeling yourself an Infantryman if you are not Infantry.

Can someone earn an EIB if they are in an infantry unit, serving in the role of an infantryman, but their MOS is not 11B?

I was pleasantly surprised as an 05B to have earned a CIB.
This was way before the CAR was developed.

I was always under the impression that any MOS can train for, and test for the EIB, but only Infantrymen can wear the badge. The accomplishment would be added to your ERB. I have personally seen 92Y and 25 series go through the training, and even a few go "true blue"., and while, by regulation they cannot wear it, they still have earned it, and it gets added to awards, badges, and certs.

I think that ended in 2016, we're holding an EIB/ESB right now and our SGM was talking about how non 11/18 series used to be able to try for their EIB. Now that the ESB exists they don't really need to try out for EIB anyways. I'm tracking 18D only can't because the EFMB would be in their field.

Out of curiosity, what is your actual MOS?
