Heading to Drill Sergeant School in a few months, my ERB says I’m going to Fort Benning after, I’m a 91B can I do BCT there with Armor or Infantry? Wasn’t sure if support MOS can be Drills for OSUT.

We had non 11 series Drill Sergeants in OSUT in 1984. Most of ours were 11Bs, but we did have a few non-11s. You don't know it until the day you wear dress greens and you notice some uniform items are missing. I opted to not complain, as one of my DS was finance and probably one of the meanest ones in the whole company.

Yes. You won’t teach any real MOS specific skills but you can teach basic Army skills

Yes... I had a wake up call when I was an Instructor at FLW.I was briefing a SFC Drill Sergeant on what we were going o do for the days class and how I needed Soldiers to enter the room and go to tables and not touch anything until directed. As I was doing this I was also taking apart an M9 pistol. The DS stopped me and asked what I had just done. I had to ask her what she meant. She pointed at the Pistol and asked me what I had done to it. Then she said she was a 42A not a 31B. It totally blew my mind that noone had warned me that we had non-MP's as DS.

No, you will not be involved with OSUT. BT is a lot more fun anyway. Enjoy the tour. Thank you for your service.

I went Fort Benning for BCT and I’m neither Infantry nor Armor and all 3 of my Drill Sergeants were support MOSs so I’d think you’d most likely be assigned to a BCT site like 2-47.

Exactly! I was E Co 2-47 with the same situation, but that was 8 years ago. PFC Jeffrey Herrington

Is it no longer OSUT at Benning?

Ft. Benning has Infantry and Armor OSUT, and I think Cav. They also have plain old basic training. My son went there for basic, then on to Ft. Sam Houston for AIT.

When I was in, it was only OSUT for Infantry. No regular basic training and no other combat arms or combat support MOSs.

Me too (84-91). They closed down Ft. Knox several years ago for Armor and Cav and moved them to Ft. Benning. I don't know when they started doing a basic only program. It has been quite a few years now though.

Good to know! Thank you! I was stationed at Benning twice (80-81 and again from 84-88). Went to Drill Sergeant School there in 88.
