Can yoy? Sure. Shoyld you? In most cases, no. If the Soldier presents a valid proof of insurance, this should be accepted as verification 99% of the time. The only exception (IMO) would be if the Soldier has previously demonstrated a significant lack of integrity.

I'm curious as to why you would need to verify someone's insurance status? If it's part of a Commander's policy (or similar situation), then your soldier should be able to obtain a letter from their agency confirming a valid policy. IF you are just fishing for information you'll likely encounter difficulty obtaining details. Many companies are hesitant (and rightfully so!) to provide information without authorization from the policy holder or without receipt of a valid court order/subpoena. You might 'trick' them out of the information but be prepared for the fall out if the member opts to file a complaint. Likewise, if you have a "problem soldier" and are attempting to gather information, I'd suggest enlisting the advice of the local JAG and/or Area Defense Counsel (ADC) to cover your own 5th point of contact.

I imagine the scenario is due to many active duty Army units conduct privately owned vehicle safety inspections when there is a long holiday weekend, a Soldier is going on leave and intends to drive their own vehicle in lieu of flying, or the unit has a block leave period coming up like the winter holidays. During these safety inspections, among checking basic safety functions like lights and signals working properly, windshield wipers and seatbelts being operational, etc., the check also entails ensuring the Soldier has a current and valid license, registration, and proof of insurance.

SFC Jeremy Boyd - Makes sense. Some of the units I was in used to do similar with troops before long holidays. Generally, producing a current insurance card was enough to satisfy the requirement.
