I signed off on a 6-year infantry contract in the army, and honestly, I regret it. I wasn't scheduled for enlistment that day however I got upgraded to enlistment at MEPs right after the medical and didn't have much to think over my decision until I got home. Im currently in DEP and I've got over one month until Im shipping out. Is it possible to change the length of enlistment from 6 to 4 years?

Until you raise your right hand and sign the dotted line, you are not bound

I have done both, however as far as I've read, the oath of elistment at MEPs is irrelevant until you take the second one before Basic.

Cristian Nicoles - that is correct. Despite what anyone tells you, there are no real consequences for walking away at this point.

You should be able to. Just let your recruiter know. It might affect your enlistment bonus if you’re getting one.

Can you change the length of enlistment while in the DEP?

If you havent signed on the line then you have no commitment yet. Talk to your recruiter and ask about your options.

Renegotiating the term length shouldn't be an issue. Renegotiating your MOS or ship date would be a much more difficult issue. The term length should be as simple as changing the term length and bonus amount.

However i recommend a shorter contract to start 4 years would be better for options in future contracts. If you have less time the earlier you can recontract and pick a new duty station or stabilize there ect ect...

#1 talk to your Future Soldier Leader.
#2 if you’re going active duty, your first oath isn’t really an oath, it’s kind of like a “promise” I’ll come back to do the real oath when I ship out.
#3 the army doesn’t promise what job, what location or what’s available day-to-day. You made that choice to raise your hand that day. Grown men make grown decisions. Go speak to your recruiter, they will help you.

Yes, it is called a renegotiation. You need to talk to your recruiter immediately, as this should be done before the 30 day mark to ship. You will forfeit any bonus you got for the 6 year contract, but will qualify for any other incentives that come with a shorter enlistment.
