I’m technically “prior service” or at least that’s what my papers say, but I was medically discharged 2 weeks before BCT graduation. But now I’m going back in for ANG 91B. I am curious has to how much freedom you have in AIT compared to civilian and basic training. Any info is helpful. Just curious

I don't recommend getting a tattoo while in AIT, wait until you complete your training and get it when you get home. Same thing for the car, you'll want to focus on your classes and not have to worry about car payments and upkeep. When you get home and get settled in then you'll have a better idea of how much you can budget for car payments and insurance.

Save all that crap four after you get your first duty station. I guarantee that when you get there you’re not going to be in with the prior service guys. If you didn’t complete an AIT then you’re not considered prior service, but rather and IET discharge. You’ll be in the barracks with the rest of the fresh kids.

Not to mention I read a couple years ago that they’re bringing or have brought drill sergeants back to AIT thank God. It’s a training environment.

Also in most if not all of AIT companies it’s against SOP for IET soldiers to purchase a vehicle. Again, save your money and do that when you get to your first duty station. It will only get you in trouble both financially and possibly NJP

you will definitely have less freedom in AIT than you do as a civilian. I suppose if you are allowed to leave base during AIT, getting a tattoo is not out of the realm of possibility. just make sure it is within regs. I would not get anything that shows. don't know about the car or phone though.
