Can you reclassify if you are promotable? Will your P status carry into a new MOS?

Ive been told that you cant, by my NCO, by retention and everything, or for intsance, I was told that you cant, but im in school about to reclass from 19K to 31B and some of these guys are promotable. I keep hearing a million different things, any thoughts?

Ok makes sense, thanks everyone for your input, what if you are promotable in your current MOS, but in your new MOS you dont the points to make E-5?

It really depends on what you're reclassing to. If the MOS doesn't allow E4(P) you'll ahve to drop your promotable status. If they do you'll just go in with your P and wait until you make points. Your retention NCO should be able to help you out with the specifics of the MOS you're going to
