If you can do 1 mile, what about 3 miles? How many more can you do? I think it is our duty to stay in shape, just in case we are needed again? What is the minimum to be considered in shape? Five miles without dying or more? Agree

Depends on the pace. I could run three miles without dying of a heart attack, but it would be at an unimpressive pace.

I ran 5 miles this morning (well, on a treadmill). Unfortunately I fear my ankles aren't long for this world though. I can run on treadmills ok, but running outside in the winter kills my Achilles.

Sir, you are another candidate for GRASTONTECHNIQUE.com. An instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization technique...you could use a screw driver, but you should probably leave it to the professional. Locate a provider tab...find a doc in your area that does it. Send thank you card later. OUT!

...and that was just your morning PT session...don't officers PT 3x a day.  That is what I was told.  Every time we would ask where the LT is, the answer was, he is PTing...

The longest run I ever did was 10 miles which I think injured my foor(though it may have been the 4 hrs of basketball the next day). Since then I've done eight-nine milers but my running has dropped off lately due to a hectic work schedule and laziness. I would say at my current fitness 4-5 miles would be no problem.

I can still run three... in about 27... truth in advertising... but my feet (plantar fasciitis) and back (three crushed disk) suffer greatly after I do.

I'm a monster on the elliptical though... can swim a mile in under 40 minutes... and can still ruck a 4-miler in under 60.... :o) ... with 40 lbs
