My friend is in the process of joining the Air Force. She asked if she’d be able to take her antidepressants with her since they’re legitimately prescribed. I’m on the army side so I obviously don’t know for sure. What would the process look like for her?

Before she raises her hand she had better be sure she has informed the recruiter that she is on this medication. Thank you for your service.

She has not spoken to a recruiter about the issue. She said that if it would be a problem, she would just get herself weened off before leaving.

SPC Isaac Felan - Your friend needs to talk to her Doctor before she stops taking her prescribed medication. Talking to a recruiter and providing the complete facts of her condtion will provide her with the information that she needs going forward.

She will be disqualified and need a medical waiver (with approved medical documents) if she wants to get in only after being off her medication for I think a year. If she needs them and it was my friend I would suggest she do something else.
