You can wake up whenever you want, get yourself a cup of hot coffee, and catch some alone time at the tv

Greg- My advice is this; don't be the Lone Ranger. Every service and every year is different, but generally, "Boot Camp" is coordinated chaos. You'll probably be pushed harder than you ever have before, and certainly with far less "reason" or explanation. You'll jealously guard every moment of precious sleep (as will your shipmates)... because believe me, you won't feel like you're getting enough. The whole point is to push you to your (current) breaking point... then push that point out a bit further. No one "aces" Boot Camp; some folks handle it better than others, and some folks have issues. From my own humble experiences... anyone who tried to "outsmart" or gain the system, usually ends up attracting too much attention, and pays for it somehow. Do your best, go to sleep when they tell you to, get up when they tell you to... survive the ordeal.

Absolutely. I suspect after about the first week, this recruit will be laughing about the concept of getting up earlier. By the time I had made it through OSUT, OCS and IOBC, I could fall asleep immediately rolled up in a wet poncho, and have on many an occasion.
Keep your mouth shut when you are supposed to, listen to instructions and do what you are told. It's simply the first of many test and evaluations you get while you are in the service.

When I was in basic I paid a fellow soldier $50 to take one of my CQ duties. I really wanted that extra hour of sleep. Of course the drill sergeant knew about it when he went to do his rounds. He made me do 5 CQs of that other soldier.
Blend in. Do what you're told.

Believe me, it's going to feel like your head just hit the pillow 10 seconds earlier when the light comes on in the morning. There's no one hardcore enough to be able to wake up earlier than you will already get up. You'll be borderline sleep deprived already.
