I am 6 months away from PCS out of Korea. I was put on assignment to Ft.stewart last week before I was able to submit my Old Guard packet. I do not have paper orders. I am only on assignment on my ERB and ASK. If accepted into old guard, will this change my current assignment?

This sounds like a question for your S1 and/or Branch Manager.

They have been unable to help me because they can not cut orders to TOG. Only TOG can put people on assignment to TOG.

SPC (Join to see) - Hmm. I would say then if your ERB and ASK are showing TOG, then your other orders are probably going to get deleted. Do you have a POC at TOG?

I do have a POC. My ASK and ERB are saying Ft. Stewart right now. But I sent up my TOG packet today. I’ve been waiting to here from TOG but haven’t been successful. I was hoping someone here my have a answer

SPC (Join to see) - As far as I am tracking, you will need an acceptance memorandum from TOG (If you just submitted it, I don't know the turnaround time for candidate review) and a 4187 requesting a cancellation of orders before you can get that squared away.

If your assignment to Ft Stewart is a priority 1 or priority 2 assignment, it will not get changed. I highly suggest you to contact your branch manager to discuss this. You probably would have had a better chance if your packet was submitted before you receive assignment instructions. Submitting the packet now can be perceived as you trying to get out of a deployable assignment. Good luck to you...

Thank you. I submitted my packet twice. But both times it was the incorrect packet. Because the NCOIC for recruiting kept sending me the old packets and not the newest with the all the requirements

Your branch would have to release you. If you're 6 months away from DEROS it's probably too late.

Can your current assignment change if accepted into The Old Guard?

It would have to be determined by your Branch Chief. Apply and try, you never know. Thank you for your service.

Have you talked to your COC? This would be a good place to start.

Definitely would have had better odds had your packet been submitted and accepted prior to coming on assignment. As many have already said, your branch manager would have to release you from orders and while it’s very doable it may be unlikely if you are going to a priority assignment. Best advice is to expedite submitting your packet as well as start emailing your branch manager and discussing your intent. May also not be a bad move to reach out to The Old Guard command and introduce yourself and talk with them on your situation as sometimes people have ways of making things happen. Best of luck.
