The Troop Greeters at BIA were featured in the film "The Way We Get By." They volunteered to meet every military transport plane departing and arriving the US through Bangor International Airport in Bangor, Maine. Over the years they greeted tens of thousands of troops and provided them with cell phones to call home, a warm handshake, and genuine thank you and welcome home or good luck departing. Chief Knight passed away on Christmas day at the age of 91.

Sad.  I met them on the way through in January 2005.  They passed out cell phones to all that needed them and even former President Clinton was one of the greeters (his plane had troubles and stayed there for a couple hours with us).

Very sad!  I was lucky enough to meet him in December 2011.  Shared a few of his personal challenge coins with me and wished me well!

I met him when I was there (not deploying) and the greeters were waiting for a flight to arrive. He showed me some of the challenge coins in the collection. It is believed to be the largest challenge coin collection in the world, though they are only able to display a tiny fraction of the coins they have been given. They were cataloging all the coins and there was a plan to put them all in a permanant museum.

The BIA group are phenomenal. Prayers for his families during their time of loss.
