The smell of a good cup of coffee is one of the best way to start the day. I would have to be a poet to describe the wonders and beauty of my favorite drink. Nevertheless, younger generations seem to have a strong preference for energy drinks despite the healthy risk involve in their excessive consumption. Is it a generational difference or a marketing issue?

Coffee....hands down. It is healthier by far as long as you don't add any frilly froo froo stuff like cream and sugar. The best brew is from fresh ground beans and french press in my humble opinion.

I have always preferred coffee, it requires a time honored skill/technique which most in our society have lost.  Also, the aroma always brings back fond memories.  There is no aroma to an energy drink.  I have patience plus I kind of loath this insta-gratification generation we have now... plus you can't have cafe con leche without the cafe...

Sir, I prefer coffee. Its a litlte bit healthier and not as much work for the kidneys. Working a mid shift I've become quite accustomed to both and coffee is definitely easier for the body to process.

I don't drink either but when I'm when out in the field and my will power starts to fade I take the instant coffee mix from my MRE and throw it in like a dip.

Chief,

Never drank coffee until I went in the Army. Very first squad leader drank his as black and strong as the heart of the devil himself. So here I am twenty plus years later still drinking that same black coffee. I have had some of the energy drinks like NOS and Rockstar at one time or another. But they can't replace my coffee. Might be because the coffee holds memories. The smell, the taste. It takes me somewhere for a moment.

Definitely coffee. I think a close second might be the concoction that we used to make, I think they call it Ranger pudding these days. Take those old brown packets of MRE instant coffee, the cocoa powder, sugar, creamer, little water in the canteen cup. Mix it up. Bam. Instant caffeine and sugar in a bit.

On a similar note, has anyone tried RuckPack?

Sir,

Coffee tastes better, but it's too inconvenient and it doesn't have as many grams of caffeine.

I think its a generational thing as well as a ease of use and how easy they are to drink and the variety they come in, even on cold days you have to wait at least a few minutes for coffee to cool down but with energy drinks you don't have to do that plus the variety they come in attracts people. I feel coffee is better cause it has none of the artificial additives unless you add them but its a natural stimulant instead of artificial stimulants, coffee in my opinion is just a acquired taste the younger generation just can't handle.

My favourite energy drink is Red Bull. For the first time, I tried it maybe five years ago, and since then, it has been my only favourite drink. I don't usually drink it often, but when I need some energy boost, then Red Bull helps the best. I know that it's not good for health, but I believe nothing that bad won't happen if you drink it rarely. Here is one article https://beezzly.com/how-to-store/how-long-does-red-bull-last about Red Bull I found recently, and there I found out a lot of new info about that drink.

Marketing, and convenience. The thought or idea of waiting for a coffee to brew vs instant gratification of grabbing a can of Monster, RedBull, etc. We are in the age of the internet where my download speed should be able to handle 100 things at once with no lag. Why wait for anything!? Also the flip side that coffee from a can just seems wrong on so many levels, and we don't have the cool machines that dispense hot coffee cans like Japan.
