I am now retired. When serving as a corps level asset in Iraq, Oct 2005-JUL 2006, we served under the 3rd ID and the 4th ID. We wore the 101st patch when they returned. Our higher HQ fell under the 101st. I have tried to contact a former commander without avail to amend the memo for patch authorization. Usually assignment orders dictate. As an Army Reserve Soldier, we were cross-leveled into a task force. My contention is that we wore the patch because we were a Corps asset, regardless of how our teams were divided up and scattered. Any thoughts?

I cannot be entirely sure how it works for the reserves, but I deployed twice with 3d ACR and we fell under various division commands. Because we fell under certain divisions it would be authorized for us to wear their patches in addition to the regiment's but it had to be authorized by a memo from the regimental commander. Needless to say, our commanders never signed off on the memo so we are only authorized our regiment's patch. Not that it really matters; I still have a soft spot for the Brave Rifles and will always rock my patch. It would have been kind of cool to be authorized the 1AD, 18th Airborne Corps, and 36th Infantry Division patches.
