What is your reaction to this video? With recent public buzz about violent crime and gun ownership, would you say this clerk represents the exception amongst gun owning veterans?

I think the guy in the video answered that when he said he don't think everyone should do it that you need to know what you are capable of. Also with that you need to know what level of risk you are willing to take. But good for the clerk I am glad he did do it.

Training and proper response to the situation helped to prevent this situation from becoming a different headline: "Store clerk killed during robbery."

As past and present warriors, we all say we'd have done the same thing but in reality I'm not sure anyone knows exactly how they'd react in this situation. Something similar happened to me once and looking back at it, it did not go down as I would've potentially described it.

Nonetheless, the training this man had is clearly displayed with his reaction time, poise, and assertiveness. He reacted - no thinking involved.

I'm sure the merits of the second amendment will be throughly debated here but no one can deny the value of military experience!

The veteran in the video is a shining example of what happens when you have responsible citizens exercising their 2nd Amendment Right to keep and bear arms. He reacted as one would expect a veteran to react -- with a cool head and courage, displaying confidence in the face of danger. If we had gun control laws in place, only the robber would have been armed and it could potentially have gone very badly for the veteran.

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

Actually most liberals do NOT want guns outlawed, just monitored, and those who are allowed to carry, trained properly in their use. I am a liberal and a gun owner.

Chicago, New York, Detroit [all bastions of liberalism] are abject failures when it comes to demonstrating how gun control translates into a safer environment for the local citizens. They have some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, yet they also among the highest in violent crime. Apparently, it's not working out so well for them.

Conversely, the states with less strict gun laws also tend to have lower violent crime? Apparently not knowing whether or not your victim is armed IS a deterrent to would-be robbers.

The following is a little right of center and could possibly be construed as being extreme right by someone who is extreme left... Read it and try to hear what the author is really saying. Does it not make sense?

I completely agree with Capt. Schwager. Just look at Australia, they outlawed guns but it did not make the dramatic drop in gun crimes they thought it would.
