Could the Roman Soldiers have pulled off the most elaborate hoax in history and faked the execution of Jesus?

Have you ever read about legionnaires? The wouldn't do anything like that due to their discipline. At that time Christianity was not widely accepted so why would they risk their lives for something they didn't believe in. Plus, the disciples went on to spread the word. There were also witnesses at the execution. There is way too much history saying what happened.

Capt Gregory Prickett - I disagree! I know what happened! What I can't figure out is why so many would lie about it for so long! It must still be happening!

Cpl Robert Russell Payne - I would ask you to go back into history. Crucifixion was extremely common. It was only stopped when Constantine became the emperor hundreds of years later. If you want biblical take on it you need not look any further than Saul of Tarsus. Saul, himself, thought Christians were the enemy of God. The Romans didn't care but they just wanted order. Back then Jesus was just one of the thousands that were killed by crucifixion. To the Roman Soldiers he wasn't really anyone special. Christians were killed for just merely being Christian. The Roman Soldiers didn't really care at that time. If you read about the legionnaires you really can't compare them to our military. They were a different breed. They lived and breathed the legion. They were loyal to Rome much more than you could imagine. In 519 BCE Darius I, king of Persia, crucified 3,000 political opponents in Babylon and in 88 BCE Alexander Jannaeus, the Judaean king and high priest, crucified 800 Pharisaic opponents. Christians think it was a big event but to the Romans it was a Tuesday.

Cpl Robert Russell Payne - Also, you are right about the victors writing the history. The Roman empire wrote the history.
