I've been in two BCT's and have seen the MTOE be virtually ignored during deployments. The assignment slots are either too few or too many between junior enlisted vs NCO, the equipment is out dated our just an unneeded surplus for the mission at hand. These are just a few of the problems I've come across.

What are some shortfalls you've seen with your unit MTOE vs the mission(s) you actually have to accomplish?

What needs to happen for a unit's MTOE to be changed or modified?

I always wished that MTOEs would allot Company HQs a training room NCO, and a BN HQs a Schools guy!

The Training Room NCO slot always seemed like the most obvious shortfall. How does the "big Army" believe a company gets itself organized without this position? Even if the job is assumed to be carried out by the 1SG, it's only natural for him/her to delegate some of that responsibility.

My last unit was an HHBN and the MTOE was an absolute joke.  In the headquarters section of HSC (HQ and Support Company) we were only MTOE'd seven personnel, but roughly double that number of weapon systems.  We also weren't MTOE'd enough tents to complete our mission if we ever deployed to the field, not to mention that the BN S3 was MTOE'd more vehicles than personnel, but not the right type of vehicles to move their equipment.

It's a fun place to be a company XO.

My hat's off to you sir. I've seen the HHC XO job chew up and spit out some outstanding officers. It's a beast few ever get the chance to wrestle. My medical platoon has M9's MTOE'd to our line medics and M4's for our evacuation crews.

I've seen MTOE issues from my 2nd unit in Korea in 03-04 & when I was at Hood from 04-10. It's CRAZY the things that CO's won't or can't turn in. Made inventories RIDICULOUS! We had stuff that we NEVER used, & things above & beyond what we would EVER need! So glad inventories are no longer my responsibility!
