I have a DD214 from my time in the Army. 12 years later I did a try one with the National Guard. When I got out I received an NGB22. Is that correct? Should I have received a DD214 in addition to the NGB22 or not? Can I request a new DD214, and would it have my Service in the National Guard listed on it? I could really use some guidance please. Thanks.

Yes it is. The DD-214 is a statement of Active Duty. You have to be on active duty to get one. That is why you will get one after deployment. It does not necessarily mean that you are out of the military. It is just a statement of completion of active service. Since you are in the National Guard and not active duty you don't warrant a DD-214. You were on a M-Day status, drilling. The NGB 22 is a statement of separation and record of service. It also notes service to a State in which you served. It is just a National Guard Version of it. Just like you take a National Guard version of the Oath of Enlistment. So far I have 4 DD214s and 1 NGB 22. I am sure to get some more too.

SPC (Join to see) - It is up to the state. You can have one completed before you get out but they usually what till the last minute. They are usually done at your state HQ.

Ahhh understood, next month is my last drill date, and I ETS before the Jan one, honestly I have a feeling in my gut I won't see one before I get out thats just me, do you think my state HQ would have one like a week after I ETS? They're easy to contact

DD 214 = active duty under Title 32 or Title 10. NGB 22= National Guard M-day (one weekend a month + AT) service time only.

There is often no easy way to retrieve government documents. If you lost, misplaced, or need a new copy of your DD Form 214, you may be concerned about the road to retrieval you are about to embark on—particularly if time is limited.

You do not get a DD214 for Basic and AIT, you have to serve more than 6 consecutive months.

Question: My brother in law served in the National Guard and was a 2nd Lt. NOT on active duty. He has passed recently from an illness. Does his wife (my sister), children, have any dependent benefits? And if they do who or where would they apply? Thanks from Tim Carney, former USCG, 1967-1971.

i have both of them my DD214 is from my active duty time. the NGB22 is from my National guard time. alot of things that i have done in the Guard is missing from my NGB22. and some of the dates are wrong on my DD214. but the answer to your Question is no DD214 from the Guard just an NGB22 from your Guard time. but it all should be in your 201 file every thing you did in the Military. hope this is helpful it took me over 10 years to get copy's of my Military records. but to get thing's added or changed on your DD214 you would need to file for a DD215 and if you don't have the paper work proof of the missing or wrong things such as dates. if i had my reporting orders from my active duty to my guard unit. is when my pay stopped on 11 Aug 1982 so that is what is on my DD214. but my out prosesing took 2 weeks longer so my dates on my reporting orders are 28 or 29 Aug 1982 so the dates on my DD214 should be 28 or 29 Aug 1982 so when i tried to get a DD215 with all the corrected dates and missing awards the Military records couldn't find anything they told me they gave it all to me in my 201 file. i lost most of my 201 file in a flood in my basement when the hot water heater let go and ran all night. so keep all your paper work in a safe place. hope this helped you good luck hope you have better luck than i have had

SPC Bly,
Yes, this is correct. Since the National Guard is a State entity, they issue NGB22 as a record of service. You will not get the same benefits from a NGB22 as you would a DD214.
Hope this helps.

DD-214s are for ACTIVE DUTY time only. NGB-22s document your time in the National Guard. No, you should not get another DD-214 for your National Guard time because it wasn't AD time. The question is - How much active duty time do you need to get a DD-214? The world may never know...

you should be able to get one i did the same years as you did. i had to go to basic training & AIT for that i got my DD214. then at the end of my active Guard time i got my NGB-22 so you should be able to get one but i don't know if what state you did your time in matters. i did my time from the state of MA. so you should look into it more

I was in the National Guard around the same time and received a NGB22 and the certificate. You should have issued documents after discharge. You have to go through the State where you served.
