I overheard a discussion between what seemed like a High School graduate and an older gentleman the other day. The young lad was talking about going to college and getting a degree in Military Science. The older gentleman said that after 23 years he served in the military, you would of thought they would have given him one in Military Science. Do you think serving 20 plus years in the military would qualify you for a degree in Military Science?

Maybe as a compromise, MSgt Jamie Lyons, they could be authorized some sort of certificate in military science. But I don't think a degree is the right answer, because degrees come with academic requirements and those might not be met by everyone completing 20 years of active duty military service.
We get college credit for military courses (DLI, professional development schools, etc.), so I think college credit for military experience is a reasonable proposition. Just not a degree. For me that's a bridge too far.

I’ve never heard of bachelor’s degree in Military Science. However, all the graduate level schools here offer a Master in Military Science aimed at the ILE students. I think those degrees address the Strategic level rather than the “boots on the ground” experience, so being in the Army for 20 plus years ins’t going to qualify you for a Military Science degree.
