For those on high opstempo, there is no outprocessing. Those leaving look around and echo Arnold, "I'll be back...."
Just a standard TDY --- whether it be ConUS or O-ConUS --- same-o, same-o
(doesn't matter if it's 2 weeks or 2 months or longer)
Don't remember anything special for O-ConUS PCS moves either --- to or from.
Just another base.

Sir, are you referring to out-processing from theater at the end of a deployment? If so, I believe there are a few key ingredients to have a seamless out-processing experience:
(1) Ensure that no Soldiers have outstanding issues with equipment (FLIPLs/statements of charge)
(2) 90-120 days out, all evaluations and awards are completed and ready for submission to higher for approval
(3) Have informed and engaged UMOs that can navigate through the clearing processes for that particular location, and can advise the unit leadership on this as well
(4) Have a unit reintegration process defined and ready to implement for Soldiers and their families

YES Out processing everyone's nightmare. BRING BACK THE MOBILITY LINES. It is a pain in the a.. to go to 30 different agencies on their time to process out. It takes three days away from the families. When you get there all they do is initial your paperwork. I remember my first and we went through a mobility line. Everything done in one day. Shots, medical, Wills, POAs, records review and what ever else.

Deployments...not everybody's favorite subject, but sometimes we've got to go. How could outprocessing be improved?

I would like to see the memo that states you were there and why you left uploaded into your online records, that memo has been an issue for me to acquire following both of my deployments mostly because i deployed with a different unit than i belonged to or left the theater early and unexpectedly

I was a unit deployment manager for a bit. The biggest thing we had a problem with was holding people accountable for their actions. Missed appointment.. meh.. no problem, have the UDM re-schedule. Did not pack the pro gear.. meh.. blame the UDM for not issuing it (even though we did and completed a bag drag before they got on the plane). I think the process is pretty good if it is followed. The wild card is the individual out-processing.

On Moody our Commander solved that problem by having the MPF come over to the flying squadron. The support units should be catering to those who are forward deploying...not vice versa. That mentality is the tail wagging the dog.

When I was in the Army we just processed through a deployment line on the base gym. Everything is set up in the gym to include dental, shots, medical, paperwork, dog tags..etc....it's a much more efficient way of deploying. This method captures the entire unit at one time. There is no guess work or missed appointments.

We have tried.. but since we are Civil Engineers and not a flying squadron, we were told to go suck and egg...
