DEROS/PCS orders

I am stationed OCONUS, with a DEROS, on a first term 5 year enlistment contract. Approximately when will I receive my PCS orders? Is there anything other than reenlisting that I can do to influence where I go next? If so, how do I do that out of my 15 month to ETS reenlistment window?

What is your DEROS?
You should expect to receive orders within 6 months of your DEROS. If your window to re-enlist opens prior to your DEROS, you can submit a HOTLINE request through your Career Counselor and request a specific duty station. You should talk to your Career Counselor and see if they are able to help, but if your DEROS is before your 12 months from ETS because you are OCONUS, you will be slotted based off of needs of the Army. SFC (Join to see) can better assist.

Appreciate the response SSG, I figured as much re: the slotting. I will see if I can speak to my career counselor when the time comes as my DEROS is 24 months before my current ETS. I would guess this means I can not reenlist to influence the choice of duty station (since I would be well out of the window?

SPC (Join to see) - Correct, you are unable to re-enlist for your preferred duty assignment. There is nothing that says you cant try to work out a drug deal with your branch manager to influence your next assignment.

You can update your ASK on HRC for your branch manager to view when it’s time to come on assignment. Regulation is that you will be reviewed for assignment no later than 7 months from DEROS and placed on assignment no later than six months from DEROS.
You are not in your reenlistment window and will not be, so re-enlisting for a duty station of choice is not an option

SSG (Join to see) it’s been a few years since I looked into it, but if I remember correctly it’s AR 614-30.
I think a lot of people fell into the cracks during COVID, and I’ve seen it happen a lot when people are volunteering for Recruiting from OCONUS.

Your order will depend all on you. You should know where you are going usually half way through your tour if you are in Korea. You filling out your Levy packet and making sure it gets processed will all be on you. You can call your Branch Manager and ask if you can go to a certain place and or ask what is available.

You *should* receive your orders at least 30 days prior to your DEROS, in order to allow you to make travel arrangements and clear. You should receive an E-Mail regarding PCS briefings. If not, ask your S-1 about it. Don't leave your PCS up to anyone else. I did that while in Korea. I ended up having to go to G-1 on my lunch break to get my orders and make travel/HHG arrangements 10 days from DEROS. I went back to work and told my OIC that I was PCSing in 10 days and that I had to start clearing. He told me to GTFOH and safe travels!

No one cares about your career more than YOU. Ask questions and follow-up. Your career is in YOUR hands.

We should have orders by your DEROS Date. That should be on your – one or your two alpha. When will you receive them is based on your DEROS Date. No there's nothing else you can do except for reading list to change where you going. If you say no you'll sign a piece of paper and you'll be discharged not allowed to re-enlist

Incorrect. Your DEROS is, in just about all cases, the day you leave your OCONUS assignment. If you are referring to a DEC Statement (Declination of Orders), your present orders will be rescinded and you receive a Bar to Reenlistment, not a discharge. Then there is nothing that keeps the Army from re-issuing the same order, with different report dates, so you can indeed still be ordered to wherever the Army wants you to go. You cannot decline orders twice. Please don't put incorrect information out there, it confuses those who don't know better.
