Its odd that I am seeing a lot of 16, 17, and 18 year Service members get tagged for a QMP and kicked out.... just short of retirement. Dirty... really dirty.

SSG (Join to see) great question, I am standing by to hear of some responses. Experience and wisdom is a must at the NCO level, why cut the force when Senior NCOs are needed IMO.

SGT Robert George - IF there are no limits on how long someone can serve would you like to see a professional PFC or Cpl with over 20 years service? On active duty, not in the reserves or NG. The longer those in senior positions stay, the more difficult it is to balance ranks in all MOS's. What we like to see is a pyramid; as you look at each grade in the MOS the one above it is smaller the one below it. When a field looks like a diamond (swollen in the middle ) it creates many problems. Stagnation of promotions, early retirements due to no hope to get promoted. You need to look at this thru big Army's eyes not the soldiers. Yes, I know folks will get forced out. Sorry, but that is how it goes. Semper Fi.

I would like to see the military, as a whole, pare down in size from the TOP DOWN. We have Way Way Way more General Officers now than we can possibly justify by any stretch of the imagination. Just saying, that if you eliminate General Officer positions that frees up enough money to pay for more Infantry Platoon.

Have to make cuts when we are downsizing so start with the ones who stepped on their crank one to many times. Another thing that is going to free up some room is the roll back of the RCP dates. There are many on my peers who need to go to the house. I would also like to see if a senior turns down a duty position such as 1SG 180 days later they are retired or put out. There are way to many leaders out here just collecting a paycheck. At JBLM we are apparently over strength on 25W/25U5O but we have SFCs holding 1SG positions? Time to trim the fat boys and girls.

1st Air Cavalry BDE (1ACB) at Fort Hood Texas was a unit that received many QMP notification letters. This was from 2012. The BDE even had the highest attrition rate of CPT's from the RIF board in 2014.
I was in the unit from 2010 to 2015 (1st Air Cavalry Brigade -1ACB). The Air Cav BDE had many depressed Soldiers who were suicidal during that time period due to the toxic leadership from the brigade command team.
We had just returned back to Fort Hood (June 2012) and finished a year long deployment from Afghanistan and the BDE command team led by COL John Novalis changed over. COL Cory Mindenhall and CSM Chris Amagliani took over and morale in the BDE plummeted! Mindenhall and Amagliani were directed by FORSCOM to get rid of Soldiers for minor offenses such as missing a medical appointment. The Army was downsizing and commanders and CSM's were told to chapter people out for the smallest of reasons. The BDE command team gave no leniency: You missed several formations - gone! You failed one PT test - Gone! Several speeding tickets on post - Gone! An Officer misses two meetings - Letter of reprimand (career killer) - Gone!
Our BDE Chaplain, MAJ Shabazz, had MANY late nights with depressed Soldiers, NCO's, and Officers due to the horrible command team influence of COL Mindenhall and CSM Amagliani.

This seems to be the army way. They will take anybody when the meat grinder of war needs fresh bodies. But after it's over lets find any blemish to thin the ranks. I can see the reason for this if you currently are fat, breaking the law, not wanting to progress. But to target someone for a failure 10 years ago who has great service afterwards, aaaaaaahhhhhh give me a break!

Yes, I was hit for a 5 month COR from back in 2009. Was a 4/4 values. My 6 NCOER since we're either 2/2 or 1/1. With a 3/3 3 MONTH COR from when I was an instructor, with most of that either a cycle break or leave.

In the end...there are winners and there are losers. If one does not want to be in a position to be considered for QMP or QSP....Then one needs to do what it takes to continue to move up and forward in their MOS. Honestly I have no sympathy for an individual that does not make the cut. That makes more room for the many soldiers that are hard charging to move up and forward. #CANT MAKE THE CUT...MOVE ASIDE PLEASE. THANKS

I was selected due to an NCOER with a "no", in Army values for respect. It was my only negative document in my entire file. I have been in 15 years, and fortunately I had NCOERs, after this incident reflecting how I have held higher positions, and have been selected over SFCs to serve those positions. Needless to say, this one incident had no bearing on anything, because I was retained. Yes the Army is downsizing, but if you stay competitive and do the assignments others do not want, you have nothing to worry about. Good luck to those who are getting looked at for QMP!
