A good friend of mine had enlisted into Active Army as infantry. He told me he’s going to Fort Jackson, SC for basic training, then TX for AIT. I’m assuming he’s referring to either Fort Hood or Fort Bliss since Fort Sam Houston is for medical personnel. I informed he that she should be going to Fort Benning, GA for OSUT. He insists his paperwork reads the latter. Did some things change over the years? I just want to give him accurate information.

To the best of my knowledge OSUT will always be at the Home of the Infantry! Good ole Ft. Benning, GA. Sand Hill, love the place.

I agree! Unless it’s one of those “tough guy” acts? While stationed at hood, I never encountered any AIT students. Being a good NCO that I know you are, check on his paperwork? SSG (Join to see)

My thoughts exactly. I actually asked him to show me his paperwork when he got the chance. Thanks for that SSG. I want to be sure that he’s not getting screwed. I know how MEPS likes to scramble things up. SSG (Join to see)

I believe your friend is a bit confused. Perhaps he might want to check his contract before he ships out and make sure he’s getting what he really intended singing for from the get-go!

Absolutely sir. I spoke with him again and he spiel with his recruiter and confirmed that there was definitely a mistake with his paper work and got some new ones drafted.

Your friend may be confusing his Basic Combat Training unit to mean his MOS is Infantry. BCT units are Infantry Regiments, so maybe a civilian could confuse the concepts. For instance, my BCT unit was E Company, 1st Battalion-48th Infantry Regiment, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
He's probably also confusing the the idea that while BCT is basic infantry training, it does not equate to Infantry occupation training.

Stilp trying SFC. He hasn’t shown me his paperwork yet. I’ll get with him today. Hopefully I can figure out what the mix up was. SFC (Join to see)

The length has changed the place has not. Fort Benning is infantry OSUT will never change. The only thing that changed was when they moved tankers and cav scouts out of Fort Knox to Benning back in 2011.

SSG (Join to see) yea it doesn’t sound right. He needs to look at his contract and MOS reservation again.

SSG (Join to see) I just left a MEPS and I assure you they didn’t steer him wrong. It would be a career ender for whoever should try to steer someone wrong. I think he may have misheard the information provided to him.

Good point. I hope it’s all a misunderstanding. I asked him to show me his paperwork so I can help clear the confusion if possible. SFC (Join to see)

Guard and Reserve might find them selfs at an "other" location for Basic and Benning for Infantry AIT..
But regular Army Soldiers 11X OUST is just that one unit station training and its at Fort Benning.

Roger that SGM. He’s active duty though. He’s being told that he’s going to two different locations for basic and AIT. Neither one of them are Fort Benning.

Initial entry Guard Infantry, Armor and Combat Engineers do the same OSUT as the regular Army, unless that is recent change.

CPT Lawrence Cable - It was not always so then...when I was a drill at Jackson, we had the occasional IET SM guard or Reserve that was doing split option

Osut usually means he's doing basic and ait in one place with one unit which I know only infantry does which I did when I went to basic training. At a Drill Sgt in Ft. Jackson I seen a couple of soldier that came through and did basic in Ft. Jackson and went to Ft. Benning for ait and they were infantry soldiers. Being Infantry myself I found that very wierd but it happen.

Roger that SSG. So it could be possible then. But what about the fact that he believes he’s going to TX for AIT. That part doesn’t seem right at all to me.

It's possible that one of the bases in Texas there is some new AIT training. You also have Ft. Bliss in Texas

Back in the day, Jackson was the Reception station, then we were put on a bus and sent to Ft.Benning.

Sounds like he is talking B.S. Jackson and Hood are where the medics go or medical personnel. My friends son just went through Benning 4 months ago and he was NG.

I’m thinking somebody at MEPS misled him all the way. I told him to speak with his recruiter and re-read his paperwork. There’s no way he’s going to SC and TX if he’s infantry.

He might have told him he was going to be a medic attached to the Infantry. If thats so, good us grunts always need more Doc's in the field.

Fts Hood or Bliss have no AIT. Someone correct this if I’m wrong. They do have phase 2 of some medical MOSs. Ft Sam Houston is the Army Medicine schoolhouse. If you enlist in any of the medical MOSs sans I think one or two, you’re going to Ft Sam. Welcome to the AMEDD, troop. Stay out of the “meat market” at Ft Sam.
