First I would just like to state that I am not endorsing a candidate here in this question or forum. Now with that out of the way I can move on to more pressing topics.

Now we have seen two of the more unique, if not, radical candidates for the presidential election this cycle. They are of course Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump. What so many don't seem to realize is they are not the driving force. In reality there was a political movement going before they were on the stage. They championed it and took it on as theirs. Sanders performed well with this campaign but lost due to his own party not supporting him. To me this is more of the same. At least he launched his ideology into his party. Now, as for Trump it was a different story. He is much more of a refined fighter than any of the political figures of out time. He took on the Republican Party and won. He is ripping it apart and cam out with more support in the primary than any other candidate.

In either of these cases I really don't believe the candidate could have done this on their own. There was a much larger movement going on before they stepped onto the stage. The previous Republican leadership failed to deliver on what they said. So now their party lost faith and an "Outsider" was wanted. Trump was that outsider. But he is very savvy and stepped into this role perfectly. Whether he did it on purpose or not as you could tell it worked out for him well.

Do you think this was the case or how can you explain the success of these two political figures?

What the hell is everybody smoking this year? I have never seen so much fuss and bother over an election. Surely, it isn't about the candidates. Hillary is the matriarch of a crime family and Donald is the patriarch of a brand. Neither is fit to lead this nation or any other for that matter. And yet we are venting spleen the likes of which hasn't been seen since the Civil War. Brothers are fighting brothers. Sisters are fighting sisters. Parents and children are being estranged. I'm tempted to think that we're caught up in dueling ideologies but neither candidate represents an ideology. Both are self-centered on their dynasties. Please, someone ring a bell so that We the People can go to our neutral corners and take a moment to think about what We're doing.

What we are seeing, in the most simple terms, is a rejection of the Establishment, which has infiltrated both sides of the aisle [two sides of the same coin if you will] and voters are tired of being lied to by both parties. They want an outsider to fix things because the insiders aren't doing their jobs! And this November a lot of Congressmen are going to be told, "You're fired!"

And the democrats might have gotten Bernie to the plate had the DNC not worked against him and for Hillary in the now coming to light email scandal at the DNC and reh resignation of Wasserman-Schultz. This could very well have been Trump against Sanders clearly demonstrating to both parties they need to change and change quickly. The odd part is they would have to polarize even more. I cannot imagine to more different candidates then the two of them but they share one common trait, they are both outsiders (in their own way).

The statement is the reference to the article itself. I am a Libertarian. But both with Trump and Sanders I just don't think the hype is really all about them. It could be candidate X and they would have the same support of they were support what is popular.

I think we're all a bit Libertarian. Do the voters respond to the candidate.... I think absolutely yes. I'm this election, I think host sides will vote in response to the Other candidate... Sad, but its what we've got.

Did the political momentum make the leader or did the leader make their political momentum?

I will hold Mr Trump, and Sen Clinton for that matter, responcible for what his/her supports say if either does not immediatly condem and distance themselves from those supporters. Otherwise it is tacit approval.

To be frank, both Candidates were just pandering to demographics. Bernie could rally the young people because they have 'useless' degrees, spend all their time in school, and accrue so much debt they cant pay it back feasibly in a 'short' time. I use 'useless' because some have good degrees, those that don't, don't have the connection to get their foot in the door for their degree to be useful, so useless. Sanders got record counts of young voters to come out just by saying what they want to hear. The raising of min wage...that's entry level...corporations shouldn't be able to say, we will give you 7.25/hr to someone who has held a job for 5 years, but got laid off, or , then again, they shouldn't be applying for cashier at walmart, or kohl's, or macy's, or whatever else. I do think colleges should do more job fairs, and promote more for the students to get their foot in the door with internships and the like...but that's for another time. Now that Sanders is 'out' whether you think the DNC shoving him out of the way or not, he conceded to Hilary prior to that knowledge, and he was never going to win the nomination, short of Hilary having a medical condition surface, or pass suddenly, or whatever else, or a justice system that said...we all know...

Trump I think is unique...he says what a lot of people want to say, but don't because we as a people are becoming more passive and willing to take words and shrug them off and complain in a corner. Hes bringing record votes to the primaries, on both sides of the fence for opposition and support. He also doesn't hold back which is what Americans need to see. Its a huge change from what we have seen politicians do. They say one thing and we get not what is either intended, or the opposite. "I will not raise taxes" that's a huge one we always hear...then what do they do..raise them...it happens, funds for everything has to come from somewhere. With Trump not being a politician, it either gives people false hope he can do something, or it gives people hope that he will do something. If he pisses off the republican party, they will reject everything he has alongside of the democrats, and then we have a figurehead in name only and basically cant do jack...2/3 is all they need to change how an executive orders funding is. That's why he is giving in to the republicans, he can either make concessions to them on some issues, probably the supreme court nominee will be a name given to him to put forth, and he wont be able to choose someone else. Same if another name needs to be put forth, I doubt he will get to choose and a few names will be given to him.

America needs a restart and Trump is the likely candidate to do that, I am not saying I support him, but what have politicians done for us? The same old, same old banter back and forth, take a two week recess and then banter some more.

We have probably the worst election in our history before us...No one can complain since they are not running, and those that are, stein and johnson, vermin supreme have the cards stacked against them. Who runs the debates? The RNC and DNC...they don't want an outsider to get in the mix. Those are the people who can complain we have a giant douche and a turd sandwich to choose from this election. But thats my feelings on the situation. We will see who 'America' chooses and what happens afterwards.

SPC(P) Patrick Westbrook Bernie has been very well known for a very long time for his integrity, consistency, and honesty. He doesn't pander, never has. He didn't "just say what they wanted to hear."

I should probably rephrase, he said what he believes yes, but that is what these 'Millennials' want to hear. Otherwise how did he have record turnout of younger voters who tend to either not vote in primaries, or vote at all. Then with polls of Hilary and Sanders, he was smoking her on the young vote...there has to be another reason...what else did he say that ultimately differed from Hilary to cause this? I am not saying that hes a bad guy and that he lacks integrity, consistency, and honesty...those are three things that Hilary definitely lacks. She refuses to admit something wrong, denies, denies, denies, back tracks with the allusion that America wasnt ready to hear things about gays/lesbians, when no one truly cared until it came up at an election...transgender? I know tons of people...identify with both sides, a few had operations...it was never a big deal to people who were unaware until it became an issue during an election cycle...These people have been around for ages and people are now coming out like...whaaaa...Elections seem to bring out the worst in everyone when you cant identify a female from a male anymore, or you approach a female thinking a male...
