There was a discussion on the TSgt pictured above earlier about how a 19yo can make E6 with only 4 months of service.

The thing is, she really IS only 19 years old. Due to her position in Max Impact, she was auto promoted to TSgt upon graduating from Basic Training. All service's premier bands promote their members to instant E6 after Boot Camp. The only exception is the President's Own, and that's only because their members don't even attend Marine Corps Boot Camp!

PO1 John Miller - I find this a bit fishy knowing how stingy the Air Force has been traditionally regarding enlisted promotions beyond E-5. I have known several who got out of the Air Force because they were tired of being an E-6 (P) for about a decade. Also of note, check out the occupational badge she has over her left breast pocket...that is a "SENIOR" rating (with the Star on top) which requires what is termed a 7-skill level, which by definition means Airmen with many years of experience in the specialty, responsible for supervision and training. You don't acquire the Senior level 7 at age 19. Maybe I am wrong about this and hopefully one of our Air Force friends will chime-in on this topic and correct me if I'm wrong here, but skill levels go to experience, ie., time in service and time in the occupation. If she was just a 19 year-old there is no way, despite her rank, that she would be wearing anything other than the Novice Level (or Basic) of the Occupational Badge. This alone would be indicative to me she has probably earned the majority of her stripes, even if she left Basic Training as an E-3 or E-4. She DOES look pretty young for her rank all things considered. But to me, even a Colonel on active duty looks young these days. LOL! I'm older than dirt.

Unfortunately this is legit, and the (now) 20 year old Tech Sgt does rate the "Senior" AFSC badge.
