The Air Force and Weather (WX) has enjoyed a long history and has changed with the times. The 557th Weather Wing will be the new designation and there will be an additional 400 personnel
I am not in total agreement with some of these changes particularly the loss of ROS sites. These sites are now automated with a corresponding degradation of weather observations. Hopefully this will be fixed one day.

I love the Air Force weather service! "Partly cloudy, with a chance of JDAM's in the CENTCOM AOR."

SFC Mark Merino Is there any way that we could update the AFWA page to reflect the change to the 557th Weather Wing or at least create a new group for the 557th since some people will have left before the change and wouldn't fall under their command technically? That should be the only change, all of the sub groups are the same, at least for now.

I've heard and am seeing the progress of how we're getting rid of the HUB system and will be training future 3-lvls at our respective "forward observing" locations.

Wow, 3-Levels!! I think there is an A1C on here that is going to be a forecaster. I never saw a forecaster less than an E-5. But I did see E-5 Wx Observers. Boy things have changed.. lol

I currently am a weather forecaster at the hub at Scott. Will be moving to Whiteman in May to do the observing side as well as other things. I know that they are reducing manning at the hubs. We have a number of people PCSing to weather flights over the course of the next few months. They are also sending people from Keesler straight to the flights which to me makes no sense. Nothing like having a newbie out of tech school that knows nothing about writing TAFs critiquing my TAFs. Much as I resent hub life I am glad I had the forecasting experience before I go to a flight and start reviewing the forecasts that the 26th will be putting out for us.

Airman knight,
Just to let you know man, there will be training plans in place for the new airmen straight from techschool. With the way things are headed, at least a 5lvl or a 7lvl will be there with the airman as he/she will conduct his/her OJT. in an ideal world, this will allow any inconsistencies to be eliminated and help develop a more rounded weatherman. I understand your concerns since you have been forecasting weather for a while. But please don't go thinking that airman newguy will critique your TAF without guidance and help from his/her superior.
Also, best of luck when you get to whiteman, I personally know a SSgt out there and he's a good guy.
