<p>Leaders,</p><p><br></p><p>If you successfully completed a recruiting duty assignment and meet other basic requirements, USAREC is looking for leaders in the ranks of SGT-SFC with less than 16 1/2 years TIS to volunteer to convert to 79R. All approved applicants would have to attend the ARC and Center Commander's Course, there are no exceptions. </p><p><br></p><p>As NCOs I expect you to take a look at AR 601-1 for further qualifications prior to sending numerous questions. I was a Recruiter for 8 years, my kids grew up without a father. &nbsp;There is no limit as to how many hours you can work. &nbsp;We TRIED to do PT at least 3 times a week, usually a run into the office where we hit the phones for 2 hours.. then home to shower and then off to the High Schools and colleges.. school out at 3 banging the phones and knocking on doors. &nbsp;Mom and Dad get home about 5 dinner then we were conducting appts.. at 7 or 8.. run applicants to the test site or to MEPS, home between 9 or 10. &nbsp;6 days a week.. and on Sundays you either picked up your "floor" for Monday on Sunday afternoon so they could test Sunday Night and Physical on Monday day (understand they do somethings different now).. and if they had tested then on. The road Monday AM at 4 or so to get them to MEPS by 7:30... &nbsp;then add to that the constant threats.. "How proud are your kids going to be when you're standing in a bread line?"... and I was a successful recruiter..

I have certainly heard similar stories from folks that were in the command several years ago. Times and this command have changed and continue to do so. There is a current CG directed 9-5 work hour policy in place for Soldiers and their families to have predictability and a high quality of life.

 

Telephone and face to face prospecting is done during the work hours. Appointments outside of the work hour policy are done on a case by case basis with approval through the BN CDR for anything up to 1900. NCOs conducting MEPS runs on Sundays, are required to be compensated that time either the week before or the immediate week of. If someone must do an early or late run, that must be coordinated by the CC and the NCO compensated with early off that day or late call the following day. Does it always happen this way? No, I don't know too many places where everything goes according to plan. But, the policies are in place to protect our NCOs and give them the support to address greviances.  

 

Can't say there are no threats, but I know all it takes is a call to IG these days to quickly address and redirect that sort of toxic behavior. The command does not tolerate "toxic leadership". I for one try to always take the best care of my NCOs and took more burden on my ownself than what I asked of them. And there are a lot more Senior Leaders these day trying their best to do the same. Is it always perfect and a dream job? No, but again every job or SM goes through these situations at times.

Why is their a TIS limit? I was one of the top recruiters in my BDE and Morell awarded you would think they would have a waiver available.

The less than 16 1/2 years is necessary unfortunately. Imagine the Army pays for SMs to attend the ARC, CC Course and full cost moves to urgently fill slots needing to be filled with an expected ROI of 3 years from said SMs. Now imagine some of those SMs dropping retirement packets a year or so into their assignments. In an era of tight wallets, you should be able to see the TIS requirement. I wish there were a way to waive the potential of that, but I think we'd run into some legal issues.

These are regulatory guidelines outlined in AR601-1. The ARC is the Army Recruiter Course.

 

Per AR601-1, 2-4 a.(28) Have at least 3 years time in service remaining following the completion of the ARC... & c. All former recruiters who are accepted, but who have been out of USAREC for over 1 year will be required to successfully complete the ARC conducted at Fort Jackson, SC. Prior to award of the MOS 79R, former recruiters must attend the Station Commander Course (now called Center Commander Course) conducted at Fort Jackson, SC (waiver not authorized).

I have a total of 20 years service, 16 of them are Active Federal service 4 reserves.  I would love to have the opportunity to do recruiting duty.  I am not looking for any type of bonus.  I have been doing the same job my whole career and would like to have the opportunity to do something different.

I am already AGR and have been since 2004.  I am going to put in a 4187 for detailed recruiting.  I am just waiting because I just PCSd to my current duty station in October and want wait until I have my 12 months time on station.

I'm completely open to insight, pro or con, but could you elaborate? You are absolutely correct that at times anyone can feel this way. Most would say a lot of jobs in the military seem tough, mentally taxing and at times unrewarding. However, maybe if you share more, other Soldiers might know some key concerns up front to look out for or avoid. Except the mission, can't escape that beast!

Update to this post...

USAREC has suspended the acceptance of 79R Conversion Packets from prior recruiters outside of USAREC. This is due to the success of the previous reclass initiative, which will potentially position the Command to achieve 400% of the conversion mission FY14. However, USAREC will accept Volunteer Recruiter Packets from previous recruiters to serve a second TOD with the command, if their Branch will support release, and during that second TOD they will be given the opportunity to earn a reclassification to 79R.

Thank you for this post. I have joined the 79R facebook, emailed the help e-mail on the website "recruit the recruiter" and I still have not spoken to anyone who can help me. Long story short, I am a 92F (fueler) and my MOS is extremely over strength. Promotions are slim to none at best, and I want to excel in a career. I am trying to decide is 79R would be a good fit for myself. I do wonder though, how long exactly do I need to be a recruiter before I can switch my MOS? I longer I am a 92F, the worst things will get for me and my family. My MOS is at a dead end, and I would like to switch my actual MOS. Any information on the process would be excellent. I really appreciate you/anyone for reading this. Have a nice day.

I'm going to send you an email to your enterprise account. So, look for that. However, to answer you and anyone who may potentially read this post... SM's who are DA Selected or Volunteer for recruiting assignment as detailed recruiters will be evaluated and counseled on their potential and ability to request reclass to MOS 79R once they complete the first 15 months on recruiting assignment.

I received your e-mail SFC. I sent you 3 emails back. Sorry there are so many, but I had more questions/ things to add. 15 months isn't terrible. If you do get accepted to change over that quick, do I have to go to AIT again, or will the 3 week recruiter course be enough ? Thanks
