What was the most helpful part? If not, what sort of training or education would have been helpful?

The Army has had a program in place for a while. It's evolved in the name. Used to be ACAP but last I knew it was called TAP for Transition Assistance Program. It's a week long filled with workshops on resume building, interview skills, benefits management, etc. At one point, soldiers were encouraged to attend it up to a year prior to ETS date. I found the majority useful even if I did know a good chunk of it having worked in the civilian world for many years before going into the military. The probably could have done more on benefits, but when people are that far from getting out, it goes in one ear and out the other.

For the Navy, in early 90's? I went through the TAP. Transition Assistant Program also. Referring back over to SSG (Join to see). He says it all.

I took the required ACAP thing when I cleared. All I remember is a "How to write a resume" class and thinking that I could have just googled it.
