Did you wait till you were out to get your disability rating? If so, how long before you made your first claim?

I was told at my discharge the my hearing loss was non compensated and not a concern so I perused
The claim process went to another medical center where the military doctor said yes you have a legitimate problem but you still get nothing no treatment or compensation
Ten years later i tried again hoping for treatment and still fought another year before claim was approved

Had it done before I got out as part of my out processing. Completed about 5 days before I retired, and going sense. After about 15 years saw something in FB about disability if you receive it through retirement from the military. Sent a message now I get SS Disability and my military retired pay part Disability but am also on Medicare which buts me on TFL. My medical bills are basically 0. Both knees replaced on 3 times because parts broke then staph infection 40 days in hospital and nothing out of pocket. Good Luck. Also Happy Thanksgiving

I just filed in Jan 2021 due to Agent Orange presumptive illnesses. I am still waiting!
i was out maybe two months and I think i got my rating within a year, that was back in 1991/92. they gave me 10 % for my back and denied my feet. i never tried filing another claim for my feet.

I retired in 2006 before they had the BDD program up and running. I filed in 2006 about 4 months after retiring from service. I had a boatload of problems like back, legs, feet, ankles, knees, and PTSD. I was rated for 8 conditions, but it took 18 years of constant appeals until 2024 to get my 100% T&P status with SMC (L) Aid and Attendance benefits dated back to March of 2006. Needless to say the VA jack me around pretty good.

I waited 36 years. Applied when the rules changed to allow DVs use of the commissary after I found out that they sell Conecuh sausage. Always planned to leave the VA for combat vets instead of a POG (6026/6032). Ended up with 20%. Could probably go back for more with the right council but I can shop the commissary. I was just hoping for 0 percent, service connected.

Waited for 50+ years following discharge. Worked for 45 years in banking prior to being rated at 90% due to Agent Orange exposure.
