I am prior Navy and now enlisted into the ANG. I hold a DAFSC of 2S051, but am waiting for tech school. I'm prior Navy AO (weapons) and held a journeyman level. When enlisting into my wing for the ANG, I was told weapons had no availability. So I enlisted with PAFSC 2A313L awaiting tech school. After a few drills, weapons found out about my experience and got my DAFSC changed to 2W151. After 1 drill, I got accepted for a full-time fed tech position as as supply technician. So, my DAFSC got changed to 2S051. I'm obviously waiting for a tech school date. After all that lol, my question is, do I qualify for promotion to SSgt? I have TIS, TIG, held a prior journeyman level, and completed ALS. I've asked questions and tried to read the instruction, but got confused. Any help or advice on where to look is greatly appreciated!

I would think that you would need to be qualified in an AFSC before you could promote into a valid vacancy for that AFSC.

Because that is your current AFSC (Primary) you must reach 5 level in that AFSC to be considered for SSGT.

Your section manning document could also affect promotion. Only so many SSGT slots are given to that section. But some sections are allowed an overage if they know a slot will come open. Tech school only brings you to a three level in that AFSC. OJT and a 5 level CDC gets you to 5 level and considered for SSGT. I am assuming you are also a 2S0X1 during the weekend. Not to be rude but you are not 2S051 until you achieve 5 level status. You will be 2S031 after Tech School. The AFSC you enlisted with 2A313 is a 1 level. Also I would check with your Admin person and actually see if you have been awarded the 2W151. Normally waivers would have to be submitted to bypass 3 level and you would have to do the CDC to obtain the 5 level. Just for reference 1 level is a helper, 3 apprentice, 5 journeyman, 7 craftsman, 9 level is supervisors. Also the fourth number in the AFSC indicates a person's skill level. Hope that helps a little in explaining things.
