Do newly commissioned Army officers receive BAH for their home of record while they are in training? (While at DCC, BOLC, Airborne School, etc?)

Note: I am a Navy Reservist E-6, transitioning to Army Active Duty as a LT.

If you are Reserve/ National Guard LT you will get paid for HOR as long as you have dependents or a lease/ mortgage. If you are AD, you will either get on post housing (no BAH) or live off post and get BAH for that post.

You will receive BAH type II which is set for a certain amount regardless of your home of record.

If you can I would go to the closest rapids location and get your dependents registered and a copy of your mortgage and all required paperwork input into the system prior to going to DCC because you will not have time at DCC to get this handled. Reserves and guard are basically pushed off to the side at DCC for finance and HR issues and the reasoning is you aren’t there long enough for them to worry about or for problems to be fixed before you leave and they’d rather your home unit take care of it.

It took me about a year to get BAH type II back pay for DCC, but after multiple emails and back and forth I did get it finally.

Do you think they'll handle my stuff considering I am going full fledged AD? I am commissioning into the Regular Army. Still..GREAT advice and I will do what you said prior to leaving for DCC

Yes they will do what they can for you at DCC but don’t be surprised if they just tell you “your first duty station will handle this”. I would get as much squared away before you go as you can because DCC was a lot of hurry up and wait and we’ll to be honest many times we didn’t get to go to finance if we had issues or were told we would have time to do something and then plans would change. You’re enlisted though so you know how it goes.

You will get BAH though to maintain your home of record. Also make sure you take copies of your LES and DD214 so they get your O-E pay correct because being prior enlisted you will get a higher paycheck as an officer based on your years of enlisted time. 1LT (Join to see)
