Do orders to Korea ever come accompanied or do they usually come unaccompanied and then we apply for command sponsorship?

The tour length is not normally reduced for an unaccompanied assignment. However, you will need to correspond with the gaining unit. Many stations in Korea are now accompanied making the tour length three years. It cannot hurt to ask. Thank you for your service.

Normally unaccompanied and then you apply through your gaining unit for command sponsorship. I went to Korea 2016-2017 with the 8th Army.

The general tour length for Soldiers in Korea is 1 year, unaccompanied tour. You must apply for command sponsorship and if approved you’d serve a two year tour.

Yes you can get your orders changed. When I was put on orders to ROK (2014), I was given the option at my Levy Brief. After some discussion with my wife, we decided that it would be easier for me to go unaccompanied for a year rather than try to move 3 people and a dog to South Korea and back. Talk to the local orders/transportation office.

Haven't ran across an accompanied tour requisition for Signal branch. All requisition we have are dependent restricted with the option to request Command Sponsorship.
