It's great. I have my wife & 4 kids on Tricare Reserve Select. No referrals needed...as long as they accept Tricare, you're good. When you figure all the deductibles & co-pays from civilian options, there is no choice if you have to purchase your health care.
Tricare can screw up and "forget" to deduct payment or some things (typical government) but great overall.
Due to all the changes in the ARNG these days, it's really the "golden hook" to keep you in.

Of course. All eligible dependents (children, spouse) rare covered egistered in DEERS and listed on your SGLV 8286 are covered at $10,000. Just ensure that you don't miss any payments...

Several years ago the DoD decided to offer tricare select to Guard and Reserves, as noted you have to pay a premium but compared to what most people pay at their work, it is relatively cheap and better than most plans you can find out there. But you have to be in good standing with the guard or reserves none of these no show people etc.
