Monday was a horrible day for American leadership. First, our petulant, tone-deaf president showed more anger toward his political critics than toward ISIS. Second, the Republican presidential hopefuls turned their backs on Syrian war refugees in a xenophobic frenzy.

Yes, the President has been petulant, tone-deaf and arrogant, and the Republican candidates are xenophobic.

No, the President has taken the appropriate stance, but the Republicans definitely are xenophobic.

No, the Republicans are right to demand no Syrian refugees be brought to America, but the President indeed is petulant, tone-deaf and arrogant.

The president probably wishes the GOP would stop acting as if it wants to destroy the U.S.
