Is this a serious question?
Freedom of religion is one of the fundamental concepts that this country was founded on. It doesn't matter if someone's a Pastafarian. There are no bona fide requirements on what is a "legitimate" religion or not as far as the Constitution is concerned.

Many who have been involved in the War on Terror have come home with a bad taste in their mouths and no amount of discussion will change their minds. Just like the Vietnam vets, it will take a long time before they come to terms with their feelings. Because of their negative experiences they do not recognize Islam. No matter what you and I say about it, it will be just words in the wind. Many have said they recognize it is protected by the Constitution, but they will never believe it is an acceptable belief. One of the problems is that what the radicals teach and what the mainstream Muslim teach are two different things. For example (and some where here I have already posted the links) a Radical Cleric teaches that a man who dies for Islam will be given 70 virgins in Paradise. Not only do they get 70 virgins, each of them comes with 70 handmaidens and each of them have 70 handmaidens, and the man may have sex with each and every one of them. Now, if you read the Koran (Qu'ran) you will see that the concept of 70 virgins is not taught so a sensible person can quickly see that it is a radical view just as being a snake handler is a radical view in Christianity. For those that have been touched by the war, it makes no difference. Therefore, you and I may see the legitimacy of all beliefs, but for this group of veterans, it is going to be a long road to understanding and acceptance.

1. All of you, 100%, recognize Islam as a religion, and protected under the BoR...even the atheist.
2. On the other site only about 2% recognize Islam as a religion, and said it was a cult...but they still recognized that under the BoR they still have full protection.
I find it interesting how "birds of a feather flock together". The other site and this one have opposite views.

I think you see such a different response between the two military sites, because on RP there’s more accountability for what you post. The other site is probably typical of online forums and members post with relative anonymity. So you likely get more honest responses on the other site. That’s why here I’ll keep my opinion on this subject to myself.

The other site is a Marine only site where as this is an all service site. SFC Paul Pakenham - I believe you may be correct. The site is divided into different forums. In the political forum you have a core of regular posters, a group that jump in as the political world changes, and then they disappear for a while, and then you have the guy who shows up once or twice a year. There are a few that are very liberal and most are conservative in their views. They have a saying, if you are so thin skinned that a post hurts your feelings, leave until you toughen up. They post exactly what they are feeling and some very lively debates get started. It is amazing sometime what is said. One guy who is a lawyer, those that bother to check profiles know that, will say what the law is on certain items.

Islam is a World wide religion. It has attacked its neighbors from its founding and has converted by the sword for a millennium, but they are open about this? It is only the Progressive Left in the West who does not believe they are being honest when they chant they are going kill or enslave us (everyone does know that slavery is still in practice in many Muslim nations?) and still holds doubts about their sincerity when they go out and kill other all across the globe?
Yes, they are violent blood craving animals, but that does not mean they are not legitimate?

Islam is not a true religion it is nothing more than a facade for terrorism and terrorist activity and has even been banned entry into the United States in the 1950's therefore it should not have any protection under the bill of rights

I will only agree to disagree with your personal bias on Islam, a following; a creed and; a way of life.
Islam doesn't promote terror or terrorism; like Christianity, Islam and other religions of the world teach tenants of orderly living and selfless service to society. Thou shalt not lie, cheat or steal from others are three of the ten commandments in the Christian faith and the same tenants of Living are found in the Quran. Jesus and Mohammed are both offspring of Abraham. Similarities are vast that even Hajj is equivalent to pilgrimage to Bethlehem and pelleting stones at the wailing wall is the same as repentance of sins in Christianity. If Islam is a facade for terrorism then, Christianity is another name for terrorists.

Yes. It meets every criteria of a religion. And anyone who says Islam is not a legitimate religion is 100% wrong. There is absolutley no room for debate.

I don't see it as a legitimare religion. Killing anyone that practices another faith is acceptable. Almost any religious system has some similarities. Work toward being a better honest person. Love those around you. Be kind in your dealings with others. Islam does not mince words in regards to honesty encouraging the principle of Taquiyya, or lying to anyone not muslim in order to dupe them into a false sense if security until they can be ounished accirding to the Koran for theur transgression. IF it could evolve to something that wasn't a security risk to all those around, perhaps my view would change.

Is killing people based on the color of their skin not a fanatical practice; is such nonsense cited anywhere in the Bible? Then, can we write-off Christianity, since Christians discriminated? A few fanatics who fundamentalize a religion does not prove that the religion is bad. I submit to you to kindly accept the religions of the world as pure and you will be practical without any prejudices.

What current Christian groups have beheaded, burned live, raped, tortiured, driven over stabbed innocent civilians because they were the wrong color, practiced the wrong religion, or failed to follow Christian law sir. I'll wait while you dig for that.
