Absolutely! It is a public domain that shows up in Google searches. Anything you post here goes out to the world. It is a great place to make connections with brothers/sisters who share a similar background, and to connect for advice & a little levity in our own special way!

I really should think of it this way, but I only think of Rally point when it pops up in my mailbox. I'm thankful for it because folks that wore the uniform understand certain things that whiz around with nowhere to land when talking to civilians. I find it amazing how two vets can meet as strangers conducting totally unrelated business and end up talking about military life and/or its impact on everything else, or whatever topic hits that day. The next thing you know, its an hour later and you part as friends.

For the most part. I use each social network for different purposes. As far as I know, I don't have any friends/family here at RP, but everyone, including my boss is my friend on Facebook. I don't usually do personal updates on LinkedIn and I almost never comment on Facebook as people are triggered so easily. I enjoy having conversations here on RP as a lot of us share similar views.

I do because Rally Point and Linked In are the only social media sites I use.

Do you consider RallyPoint part of your overall online profile? Why or why not?

It was billed as the LinkedIn for the military, but it's more like the Facebook for the military.

True to a point. I think that's partially because the admins are trying to allow members to police each other. It's part of the reason I'm usually careful of what topics I discuss.

Indeed.

I see it as being a parallel to LinkedIn, but focused solely on the military.

I like the aspect of being able to network with other current and former service members from across the branches and share information.

I feel like it could be a bit more robust, and I wish more people were active here, because I can definitely see the value added by having this resource, especially when it comes time for job-hunting after retirement.

The activity depends on your field(s). I'm all IT, fitness, and music production. IT is slowly gaining more activity but music production is very quiet and most fitness threads are repeats of the same question - "how do APFT better?", "how to ruck better?".

Most of the time no for me. Here I am myself and feel more free to be an individual. I still have to be careful with my word choice. Which can be very hard for me on one topic.

I'm the military side of me here. My family and friends say I still "wear the uniform" in my mannerisms, speech patterns and way of thinking. However, they aren't talking about the words I use so much as the attitude that goes along with it. It's kinda nice being around people that are okay with that.

My RP account more or less mirrors my LinkedIn account, except with a focus on military vs overall.

If you've ever google searched for a post you've made on RP, you'll see how quickly these things are referenced. So yes, definitely. It can be a bit insular in here, but it's definitely accessible to the world at large...

I don't share it with general public or link it to any of the public sites (FB, Trumper...er I mean Twitter... or LinkedIn)
