Do you ever get the feeling you are being stalked, electronically speaking?

Sometimes do you wish other social media sites had a way of telling you when someone views your posts or profile? I am by no means paranoid, but just wondering how others felt about people you don't know, or don't know very well, constantly looking at your status and posts.

I use my phone app a lot for RP. When trying to tap on a posted thread or response, it takes me to the profile. Sometimes I do it three times in a row. Fat fingers, I guess. Then I wonder what they think?! I'm not a cyber stalker. Really, I'm not. :)

Done that myself. This forum is better than some. Had one where it was almost impossible not to go to the poster's profile page.

SFC Vernon McNabb. Yes . . . not just by individuals . . . there are dozens of tracking companies that appear to be stealthily attached to nearly every website accessed . . . beyond the obvious tracking cookies . . . and direct following by more routinely obvious individual users . . . all seem to be gathering, correlating, and analyzing personally identifiable data. I wish there was an easier way to anonymize web access. Warmest Regards, Sandy
Facebook and Google know so much about us, they have accurate algorithms that can determine some decisions we will make. One friend told me they will even know when you will break up with someone based on chats, posts, pictures you take etc.
I don't think stalking is the right word. It is probably monitored!

The thing is, that (in my assessment) Facebook and Google could care less when you're going to break up or that your dog died and your kid needs braces. They are monitoring you for one reason - Targeted advertising. Ever notice how when you're looking for or researching a particular item, you suddenly start seeing sidebar ads that fit with all those search terms?

SGT Richard H. - They don't care about any of that other stuff because the companies they sell your info to do all the work to figure that stuff out.

On Linkedin because of my military contacts, etc. I'm ALWAYS suspect of invites when they have a few contacts and not much info...I feel that terrorist groups are utilizing social media to gain info and infiltrate electronically. I ALWAYS trust my instincts. I'm hoping Rallypoint can stay vigilant in protecting our privacy.

My home and office phones were monitored when I was the operations officer for a strategic communications center. I had always suspected this, but came to know for certain when a tape recording of one of my phone conversations was played at an annual briefing to encourage security awareness.
Did it bother me?
Not really. In fact, thinking about it, I wondered how anyone could listen to all of it. I suppose somebody got a thrill listening to me talk to my new bride. We laid it on thick just for their benefit.
Today, as an ardent critic of the ideologues who control the District of Calamity, I suspect that they may be listening again.
Good.
They need to hear and read what I have to say...

Know without a doubt that every keystroke is being stored & monitored. Yes google etc... Do this for advertisement purposes. Our governments since 911 has been collecting mass data storage. It makes me feel personally violated but my safety and the safety of my child is more important than my feelings. If this mass collection of data is used to prevent terrorism or like we call it in the US " work place violence" then by all means proceed.

Some of it is naked aggression and they think they are slick. I know who some of them are.

Yes, I think that would be a nice feature, SFC Vernon McNabb. Maybe not realistic, but desired. Here at RallyPoint we do see when someone visits our profile. It would be unrealistic to expect them (or any social media web site) to tell us when someone looks at our posts. That's where OPSEC comes into play. Each individual has an individual responsibility to check themselves when posting to social media web sites.

Not so much by people bot the computer algorithms that suddenly pop up ads to things I recently searched for on the computer. I have friends that have been stalked on the web though and it can certainly be scary when you know someone is out there tracking you.

One of my stronger attributes is seeing patterns that do not make sense or they do because they are the simplest.

Yes, I know quite a few on twitter that have been and are being stalked and harassed by people (mostly the Ladies) I try to stress to them the importance of privacy and to never use personal info for any reason! of course we all know anything electronic can and probably is being tracked even behind some firewalls. I always say if I type it or say it on any electronic device then it just got recorded and filed.
