Do you ever modify your Computer DNS settings for better internet performance?

I only modify it on the router. This way it effects all of the computers on my network.

I've tried to switch just the DNS server to Open DNS at times when the ISP default was acting up, but it seemed to have problems about as often (or infrequently) as the ISP, so last time I had to leave Open DNS, I haven't gone back.

Nice. I didn't know Verisign had a public DNS too. I've used the Google public DNS with great results for the past year or so. Good to know other alternatives are available. https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Google Public DNS is a free, global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider.

Yes. So spybot search and destroy will blackhole about 15000 malicious domains for you automatically.
At my house I use a DNS black hole server, Pi-Hole, to block about 103k domains and ads across my entire network.

SGT (Join to see) - Sorry. I realized I wasn't very clear. I was rushing to get out the door.
I use Pi-Hole as my DNS server to blackhole 103k domains. But then on each computer on my network I use Spybot to modify the DNS host file with an additional 15k domains. Redundancy. The idea is that if the host file doesn't have it the server will, and if the server goes down at least I'm protected from the worst 15k.
