Do you ever "Sound Off" at home or at work and use your "Command Voice" outside of your unit? This can include getting someone's attention, disciplining someone or just "spouting off." I know that when I do use my "Command Voice" that I get immediate attention, but not always the intended response. What are your experiences?

I have teenage daughters, sometimes they only way they hear me is with the "Army voice."

That makes sense. I try not to use my loud voice on my eight year old son unless I need to, and try to never use it with my wife. I have used it at work on occasion, with varied results. Sometimes loud is the only response, but there are often complications and sometimes, unintended consequences.

If I used it on my wife... well... nothing good can come of that. With teenage girls, sometimes they get it in their head that "louder is righter." I win that one.

A long day. Came home and was asked a question by my wife. Without thinking, I responded in my command voice. Not recommended.

I find that when people are stressed, they tend to speak louder or even shout to be heard. However, this is often not required, and simply a defense mechanism. Resultant behavior often elicits the reverse reaction of what we were seeking when we tried to gain control. Just my opinion.

Interestingly, I find that I cannot bring my "Command Voice" out 'on command'.
It is used when the military situation requires it, either to get the attention of a large gaggle OR a lone misguided soul.
When it comes out at home, it may be the same type of situation (I long ago realized there is quite a similarity between children and young servicemembers.)
However, when it happens at home, if I don't realize it, my wife may give me the opportunity to review if it was appropriate.
Sometimes it is.
However, it's important if not always easy that the "Command Voice" is intended for those whom we *command*.
