What has become of our nation? Every time I turn on the news, open facebook, speak to people in public I find myself asking this question. Do you think it’s a valid question? Take a moment and think about it. Do you find yourself confused? Does the Nation you love feel the same to you? are you Okay with your children growing up in a nation that targets its own citizens for speaking out? Do you feel okay with a Nation that wages a war on its own citizens by calling them Domestic terrorist?

Let’s face it this is not the nation I stood up and swore to defend. It’s starting to look like one of the countries I was sent to fight for. The country I took up arms to defend didn’t accuse its fighting men of being potential terrorists when we came home. But that’s just what happened in 2009 when Janet Napolitano issued a top secret memo to every branch of law enforcement stating that we were. For me I was fresh off a deployment January of 2009 a few months later in April the director of homeland defense made me feel like I had come back through a wormhole in a whole new dimension.

I would like to say it ended there, but it didn’t, hell it didn’t even begin there. The economy was seriously tanking and the federal government was out trying to prop up the auto industry with Tax payers money. Then came the housing bubble, and more bailouts. Can you imagine that you live in a country where bankers had made bad decisions and the government stepped in to help prop them back up? Think about like this banks make bad decisions rake in massive profits then the housing market crashes banks bleeding cash like a boat with a hole in the hull and no way to fix it. Insteps super government takes money from you and I and gives it back to the same banks that just threw our economy in the toilet. Now flush with cash those same banks step in and reposes those same homes they over charged for.

Then we see a massive Government takeover of health care, a health care law built on a foundation of lies much like the bail outs were supposed to help you and me.

Now we see a movement in this nation the Tea Party, its small at first and you have politicians on the left and right laughing at them. The media attacks them calling the right wingers, tea baggers and domestic terrorists. Then came another election and the tea party takes a massive number of the seats in congress. Now republicans are scared even the democrats are worried so somehow the IRS has been given authorization to target them.

Scandal after scandal gets tossed aside as being a fake, the left say don’t watch fox! Lies all Lies! Reminds me of the scene in Wizard of OZ “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!” Hell look at Hillary Clintons campaign. What Difference does it make? I will tell you it makes one hell of a difference especially to each and every man and woman that spilled their blood on the battle field! For my Brothers and sisters that came home in flag draped coffins! Those of us who had to hold our brothers and sisters in our arms praying with them as they died! For those of us who came home to nothing, our spouses gone! For those of us who can’t get rid of the war, the war we carry with us every day and every night as we fight to find piece inside ourselves! And you hide what belongs to the people on a privet server, and the moment you are told to turn it all over you delete it! Oh yea I believe she is out to help make America great, and I have a slightly used unicorn for sale!

Now we see racial division cutting us as a people as a nation. The day Roof shot 9 people my heart sank, I felt that pain and I cried gone were 9 Americans 9 of our fellow citizens gunned down in the house of our lord! Not nine African Americans; but nine Americans! This whole thing of lumping us into divided groups of people based on race makes me sick to my stomach! There is only one dominant race on this planet and that’s the Human race! Black, white, yellow; we are all human and for those of us who were born here and those that immigrated here legally we are all Americans! The color of our skin makes us no less so!

The Left calls people who hold conservative values terrorists. They say we are seditious! They call us fascists, but fascism is more closely aligned to the left in belief. They lump us in with Nazis story after story on every network save one calls us right wing extremists! I am sick of it, I am sick of having to explain to my daughters that I am not a Nazi, because of the garbage their teachers are teaching them. Or other parents who hate genuinely hate me because I am a conservative. I am sick of sitting here watching the country that me and so many others sacrifice for, get torn apart because it fits some leftist liberal agenda.

It makes me sick to think that this is the country my daughters have to grow up in, and I am sick to think that we have gone so far that we can’t save it.

The first Amendment is under attack today, they call it hate speech people speaking out on issues of race or guns or a damn flag! They let this garbage spew from their mouths attacking every value we hold true as Americans. Gone are the days of being able to take care of your family’s needs, Gone are the days your children can walk home from the park without being snatched up by the state! Gone are the Days of freedom and I fear that because we are a divided people we will fall.

Military force has ALWAYS been a tool of political policy. Our problem is that our Politicians decided in the 1950's that, like all the other tools of politics, you can compromise with the implementation of military force. Back in "the good ol' days" when you "let loose the dogs of war", you took those beasts off the chain and UNLEASHED them on the enemy. Only when they were satiated and the enemy was bloodied and cowering in fear would they be called to return to the kennel.

Like it or not, total war - with the goal of total victory - is the only CORRECT way to suse the military.

Now, we use the military like an old lady uses her cane. She waves it at you first, then lands a couple of hits until the bad buy backs off. Problem is, all she's done is let the bad guy learn that the old lady has a limited reach, and no stomach to "finish the job".

The 'Old Lady' (and she is no lady) has plenty of reach, and the cane packs a wallop when it is used properly, but it is Granny's eyesight I question? The old woman knows they are there but just does not seem to want to see them.

The "Old Lady" in my analogy is the political class. The STICK is the military, MSG Brad Sand... and YES... It packs one HELLUVA wallop... when used properly by the old lady... IMHO, when she decides to swing the cane, she needs to "swing for the fence" and keep swinging until the thug doesn't get up again.

Yes. I believe we're on the same page, Sergeant.

What bothers me is Dr Seuss is offensives but rap songs where women are whores that exist only for male gratification, violence and killing are glorified and every other word is the n word is alright. Yet by some strange twist logic a white girl singing a rap song is racist and not allowed in college because there of a video someone took of her singing the rap song years earlier! People can not have a funeral for their loved ones who lived honorable lives but career criminals killed by cops have multiple high profile state funerals in several locals attended by celebrities. We live in a strange world.

I write science fiction, belong to a few writing groups and there is a huge push to keep white people who write from writing anything that could be considered cultural appropriation.

I have story’s with multiple ethnicity’s. I have been repeatedly called racist for doing so.

SGT Kevin Gardner - insane. Sherry and I had jerk shrimp tacos to night. People are guaranteed to do two things, have sex and culturally appropriate. Spaghetti was originally Chinese, the we got it from the Italians. I get so sick of this garbage. Write what you want to write. Good luck with your writing.

Most people would not know that spaghetti was originally Chinese. Which brings up a good point. The vast majority of everything culturally here in the US, is like us; a giant melting pot. Thank you.

I mourn, too, SGT Kevin Gardner. Unfortunately, such is the destiny of all things created with the assumption that people can be noble and conscientious.

There's a story - don't know if it's true - that recalls a quick conversation between an older lady and Benjamin Franklin on the steps of Independence Hall after the signing of the Constitution in 1789.

"What form of government do we have, Doctor Franklin?"

"A Republic, Ma'am. If we can keep it..."

The fundamental idea of a Republic - the idea that certain rights and liberties CAN NOT be infringed by the government, even if a majority want to do so - is dying here in the land of Jefferson, Madison and Adams.

The "creation" of Constitutional rights by a court - rights that will be used to criminalize the beliefs of others - is a death knell for the country our founders envisioned.

Like you, sergeant, I know it's too late. We've tipped over the edge where more than half the sheeple are dependent in one form or another on the largess of the government, and they will never give up those "freebies" without a fight.

Colonel... I cannot justify the treatment (both physically and politically) of persons regarding US law.

I think, sir, it's a deflection of the topic at hand to discuss the shortcomings of American Politics when we're discussing the characteristics of democracies, republics, and their relation to the government INTENDED by the founders.

None of your points regarding the failures of American Culture and Politics changes the fact that the founders INTENDED that the Constitution would create a "republic". And, in spite of the fact that the American definition of "people" was - like most of the world at the time - tainted by Western Cultural biases, the Constitution WAS DESIGNED to provide limited governmental powers and protect the sovereignty of the people (i.e., a republican form of government). The cost in time, money and blood was inexcusable, but eventually the Constitutional Amendment processes worked. The disenfranchised (slaves, women and 18-yr olds) were granted "inclusion" in the definition of "people".

I agree, COL Ted Mc, that today's US federal government IS NOT functioning as a republic, and is much more like an oligarchy bent on maintaining control through the selective use of democratic actions to appease the sheeple into believing that tyranny is impossible in America.

PO2 Steven Erickson - PO; Your first statement is a good example of what I was saying - "There are many forms which a 'Republic' can take.". Nowhere will you see me arguing that the United States of America is not a 'Republic' nor that the Founding Fathers did not intend for it to be a 'Republic'.

What I will point out is that a 'Republic' is NOT what the average high school civics class teaches it is. Both Stalin's Russia and Hitler's Germany were 'Republics' - but you won't find those facts taught in schools.

When the Constitution of the United States of America was written, all that was necessary was "limited government" and that was what the Founding Fathers designed. The Founding Fathers were not prescient and had no way of envisioning what a society of over 360,000,000 people would be like - OR what powers would be needed by the central government in such a society.

I don't say that "... today's US federal government IS NOT functioning as a republic ... " - what I do say is that the 'republic' that it is functioning simply isn't the one that you think it is, nor is the (real) electorate the one that you think it is. It is quite possible to have a 'republic' where the "citizens eligible to vote" constitute an "oligarchy" and, if you slide "the people who actually control the choices of the candidates which the people will have a chance to vote for" into the mix even more possible.

As an old friend of mine was known to say "Unless the citizenry is actively (and intelligently) involved in finding out what their government is doing and unless they are successfully ensuring that their government is doing only what it is supposed to be doing, "universal suffrage" and "regularly scheduled elections" are no more "Democracy" than boiling an egg is hatching a chicken.".

Or, as "Uncle Joe" would probably have said if he had thought of it "It isn't how the people vote, or who counts the votes and how that matters. As long as I get to select ALL the candidates I don't care who 'wins' or 'loses' the 'election' because I always get my way.".

I think, COL Ted Mc, that we are in violent agreement. I think my perspective on this is "Well, CRAP. This ain't the way it was intended, and NOT the way I remember (imagined?) it to be." Again, I think we're looking through the same window, but from different sides.

I think your perspective is "Well, Duh. We're dealing with uninformed or misguided people who do not understand what they have (had?) or how to use it."

I think it comes down to the difference between reminiscing and realizing.

Thanks for the intellectual exercise. I thoroughly enjoy these banter-sessions with you, sir!

PO2 Steven Erickson - PO; "... uninformed or misguided ..." pretty much sums it up.

I don't think that there is any "conspiracy" at work here - any more than there would be a "conspiracy" if the James Gang and the Younger Gang both decided to rob the same train of the same cargo at the same time. There's just a bunch of people with like interests pursuing the same goals and (like the "James Gang / Younger Gang" metaphor) each of them has a vested interest in seeing that the other doesn't "rob the train" (because they want to rob the train themselves).

As before, America has managed to become great (in my opinion) in spite of itself and I actually have faith that the American people have it in them to continue overcoming the obstacles to the realization of "The American Ideal" that narrow, self-serving, self-aggrandizing people keep putting up in order to enrich themselves.

Scary stuff. So go do this. Get on YouTube and check out Ronald Reagan circa 1960s. Find a speech, close your eyes and pretend that speech is happening today. The more things change...

here is the Link that I had hoped to share when i wrote my topic.

http://www.globalpost.com/article/6592741/2015/06/24/white-americans-are-biggest-terror-threat-united-states

The left loves to Label anyone on the right as a Neo Nazi, white supremest, domestic terrorists, But what they don't tell you as that these people have more ties to the left than they do the right.

Also if you want to vote down a topic have the balls to explain why, if you disagree lets have the discussion. Don't just run away, if you feel what was posted to be wrong back up your position don't be a coward SGT Nicholas Harrison.

I do agree with both of you, the problem I have with this article is that it is similar to what the Sothern Poverty Law Center puts out, it is then regurgitated through the media playing on people's fears. The fact that they don't bother to fact check makes it worse and they go around believing it. I found that article on NBC's web site originally and followed it to that site.

I personally feel this division we our experiencing as a nation is keeping people from seeing the harm that is happening to us, wish I had a better way to put it but I don't.

Oh and lumping these hate groups in with people on the right has become a travesty because it perpetuates a lie that doesn't have a shred of truth to it.

SGT Kevin Gardner - The facts are correct, the postulates are junk.

As an old friend of mine was wont to remark "False postulates + impeccable logic = really convincing sounding crap.".

Equally, since there is only "The Left" and "The Right" in the United States of America these days, "those people" have to be "lumped into" one or the other and they certainly don't fit into "The Left".

Now if the political spectrum in America were a bit more nuanced, 90+% "those people" would be "lumped into" the group that they actually belong to - "The Wacko Braindead Far Right". You've probably seen the 9 point scale I use [ranging from "Right Right" = 1, through "Centre Centre" = 5, on to "Left Left" = 9]. 90+% of the types of terrorists we are talking about would come in as a " 0 " while the other 10-% would come in as a " 10 ".

While I don't think that America's "national divisiveness" is a "conspiracy" I am of the opinion that a small(ish) group finds it very convenient (and personally enriching). Unfortunately for the country, that small(ish) group has lots of money and power at its command - even though the various sections of that small(ish) group may be working at (personal) cross-purposes.

By analogy, if you consider the members of that small(ish) group to be logs and the whole population to be a lake, there is no "conspiracy" when you find that ALL of the logs are floating on top of the water (that's just the nature of logs and not some "Secret Log Conspiracy").

This article is from 2015, nothing has changed since then? Please I beg people, quite using the “Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC)” as a source. In my opinion SPLC is not credible. Under Morris Dees there was racial discrimination, sexual harassment and problems with management of funds. Why anyone still follows SPLC is beyond me.
