I do versioning backups with Code42 Crashplan every minute.

Sorry to say but if your "backups" are local they're not backups. They're copies.

All hard drives eventually fail. A backup system that happens automatically is best. I prefer a periodic image to a local device, plus continuous cloud based backup. I use a 3TB USB drive for the images once a month, and Carbonite. That way, when the system drive dies I can quickly get up and running with my application and settings, then restore the changes to my data files.

I haven't tried Carbonite yet. Is it easy to use?

Yes. Very straight forward. A default install will backup your library folders, documents, photos, etc. But you can customize. It is integrated with windows file explorer so you can easily add other folders and see if they are backed up or not.

I use Apple’s time machine on to a storage area network. I also backup important files on Google drive and photos on google photos. At the same time the files/photos are backed up on dropbox and amazon photos. Everything is automated. This applies to my family’s phone and tables as well.
